Interview with The Zips

In 1978 John and Brian recruited Joe and Phil, and launched The Zips onto the New Wave scene. They released their debut single, The Zips EP, in April 1979, a favourite of Radio Clyde, and the late-John Peel on Radio One. The 500 copies swiftly sold out, and it was followed by a new single, Radioactivity, on their own Tenement Toons label, in April 1980. Despite extensive airplay, support slots with, amongst others, Glen Matlock and Cockney Rejects, and exposure at CND/Anti Nuke rallies, it did not match the success of the EP. The band were now caught between two movements, New Wave and Ska, and the cracks began to show. The last gig was on 11th December 1980, and Brian emigrated to Oz in 1981. Then there was silence,
until….now....."4guys3chords2minutebuzzbombs1helluvanight" Jonzip has sat with Ladyaslan and chatted about the past, present, and future.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

The Zips: Yea, why not. They had a time and place on the rock n' roll time-line, even if it was more pop orientated.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to be in the middle of the Punk movement in the late 70's as a young man and as a man with a band?

The Zips: it reminded me of why I first started listening to music, because it had the all the energy, rawness and excitement of the early Stones and Who. I was desperate to get involved!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions & influences do you think Duran Duran contributed to the world of music over the past 30 yrs?

The Zips: they quickly moved from their New Romantic beginnings, to a musical crossroads, where pop/rock and dance met in a head-on collision.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What’s the creative process like for The Zips? Does one member of the band come to the others with a fully-written song, or does it emerge from jamming, or what?

The Zips: I normally come to rehearsals with a new song, that the band add their parts to. I usually leave them to come up with their own bass lines, guitar breaks/etc, but occasionally I have a fixed idea how I want them to sound, and the band usually (!) agree.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What Duran Duran video or song has stayed with you and the band over the years?

The Zips: the Wild Boys video is a classic – a mini-movie, in its own right.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How great was it to play the Wicker Man Festival in 2003 with The Damned and U.K. Subs? *side note* Ladyaslan would have sold her Gram's too see The Zips and that line up alone~

The Zips: we’ve supported the UK Subs on several occasions now, but that was the only time we’ve played with The Damned. We were actually on at the same time (typical festival timings!), just as they were about to torch the massive straw Wicker Man effigy. Of course, when it burst into flames, both us and The Damned lost our audiences. We stopped until it was over, but although Dave Vanian walked off stage, the rest of the band played on, to soundtrack the inferno.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to be caught in-between the cracks of the New Wave and Ska movement?

The Zips: a bit of a bummer really. We foolishly released a ska song (Radioactivity) to bridge the gap (OK, to jump on the bandwagon!), but it only alienated the remaining New Wave fans we had, and accelerated the demise of The Zips first time around (1981)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did it feel to have the late John Peel of BBC Radio One(British national radio station) and Radio Clyde( Glasgow,Scotland radio station ) play your debut EP The Zips in 1979?

The Zips: the local radio play was hugely important in spreading the word about the band in our home town of Glasgow, but we were overwhelmed by the reaction to the plays on Peelie’s show. The competition for a play on John’s show was fierce, and it definitely gained us a lot of kudos.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What do you admire or find interesting about Duran Duran?

The Zips: Simon does not possess the best voice in the world, but what he does within the framework of the band, suits the songs perfectly.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is on the horizon for The Zips? Live show dates? New Album?

The Zips: with the recent addition of 2 new members, Fred on lead guitar and Jim on drums, we are frantically rehearsing to build the set up to around 20 songs, which would make us capable of doing any gig that was offered. We’re almost there. The previous line-up had recorded 4 songs for an anti-war single, the JawJaw EP, but they had still to be mastered. That work is almost complete, and we may make one of the songs (Stop The War) available as a download, while we complete the rest. I write all the time, and so, we should have enough material for a new album, early next year – fingers crossed!

Interview with Jake Niemi

Humble…easy on the eyes…strong loyal fan base…and an incredible appreciation for Duran Duran. Jake Niemi has been lucky enough to be one of the few to enter a web-based song contest and walk away with his songs, Lush, Last Second, and Anthem of Zeroes, being played internationally in the UK and Spain and the U.S. This well spoken gentleman discusses his humble beginnings to the genesis of Behind Those Beautiful Eyes, to his gracious view of Duran Duran. Jake agreed to an interview with Ladyaslan of Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and what he feels is important to him and the music, here is the interview.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Jake Niemi: Yes beyond the shadow of a doubt; their contribution to the sound of pop music over the past 3 decades in particular has been immeasurable.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us a little bit about yourself...let's talk about the ABC Radio Networks Best Pop Artist and the Effigy Award...

Jake Niemi: Well in 2008, my manager Nikki from Bliss This Media suggested that I enter my songs on a website called Fame Games Radio, then an affiliate of ABC Radio Networks (they have recently switched affiliates, as far as I know). The website holds an ongoing competition for unsigned artists to get their music heard. If the songs garner enough attention online, then radio airplay results. Plus, other exposure and benefits come into play. Three of my songs, “Lush,” “Last Second” and “Anthem of the Zeroes” ended up being repeatedly featured on the radio program internationally in 3 countries (USA, UK and Spain) and online across the globe. The network went on to feature my song “Anthem of the Zeroes” in their Global Breakthrough Top 20, and many times I was a featured artist on the Fame Games home page. In January 2009, they announced that I had won “Best Pop Artist” during their “Effigy Awards 2008” broadcast live on the radio. I believe God has had a Plan for my career and He spoke to me only a week before the award was given, saying He was about to move and that I should get ready for it. I really didn’t expect the award but I was quite honored to be heard and respected by Tony Cowell (world renowned broadcaster and author, brother of American Idol’s most popularly tough judge Simon Cowell), the legendary multi-platinum Grammy winner Lionel Richie, other experts and the wonderful staff at Fame Games. I largely owe so much of the publicity I received in the months to follow—from both fans and industry people alike—to the staff at the MMI/Meer Music studios that runs these programs. I’m just a big kid with a longstanding dream of making it in the seemingly impossible music business. That’s finally starting to take shape. I’ve worked hard for decades but it’s paying off and I’m appreciating the recognition. I don’t think anyone knows just what we go through unless you’re an artist who has tried. If the difficulty of making it doesn’t break you, and you somehow make it, you’re beyond blessed. That’s sadly not the case for so many struggling artists and my heart will always be with them.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran video and song?

Jake Niemi: I love a lot of their songs. My favorite song by them is “Come Undone.” It’s one of these magical masterpieces that I can always turn on and it takes me into a dream world. The video was the perfect supplement to the song’s vibe. The song is pristine in every way: hooky and melodic vocal line, undeniably catchy chord progression, amazing words, emotional, and let’s not forget the stellar production. The drum line was clearly inspired by my favorite drum loop, “Ashley’s Roach clip” which has been used as an inspiration in many ways by bands, artists and rappers alike on radio tunes you’d swear you’d heard before they came out. Clearly, that’s where that line in the lyrics came from. Milli Vanilli used the loop incessantly (I still like them regardless of the lip-syncing debacle) but countless others used it like PM Dawn (“Set Adrift on Memory Bliss”), EMF (“Unbelievable”) and others. Beats inspired by that loop (from an old song by Soul Searchers) seem to turn to gold—err, I should say: platinum. I have a couple songs inspired by it and plan to record more. One such is on my MySpace called, “Steal Me A Piece of You.” Go check it out www.myspace.com/niemimusic.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Have you found a record label to call home as of yet? Who would you like to be a part of and why?

Jake Niemi: Good question. No but I’m really close, I think to a deal with a division of one of the Big Four. I won’t say which one so as not to jinx my connections. I think my dream has always been to be on the Universal Music Group (UMG) umbrella, because of the word. Also my favorite movie “Breakfast Club” from 1985 (one of my fav years for music also) has their logo at the intro. I think “universal” describes what I want to be as an artist. I grew up with Michael Jackson and Madonna doing soda commercials, in the ‘MTV actually doing music videos’ days, when I believe pop culture was fully alive and at an all-time high. I want to personally usher back in the vibe of that era. I aim to do so with my music and I’m hoping to eventually generate the worldwide hype to go along with it. I kind of want to “bring the 80’s back” because today’s kids don’t realize what they’re missing. But as far as the original question, I’m still unsigned and loving it. Every artist dreams of being swooped up by a label. That doesn’t happen, though. It’s a well-known fallacy. You have to create a huge buzz for yourself and then let the labels actually come to you. The other way around never works—something I learned the hard way years ago. And that is, if you even need or want their help by that point. I’m in the process of trying to do what I call “pull an
Owl City” and build up a huge fan base to then be in a good bargaining position once a contract is placed on the conference table in front of me. I’ve already turned down multiple publishing and record deals, if that gives you any idea… I’ve quintupled my fan base since 2009 and now have more fans on MySpace than Backstreet Boys, but you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness in the past 30 yrs?

Jake Niemi: I think Duran Duran has that same 80’s excitement and hype in them (even in the 1990’s material) that I was referring to a moment ago. And I believe they helped keep that sound and feeling alive. The term “magic” is one of my favorite words and ideals. My music would not be the same had I never heard, “Come Undone,” honestly. And I remember jamming out to “Hungry like the Wolf” when I was little, sitting in front of the Top 40 Radio wondering how all that was being done. (Later, I would work as a radio “jock” with some of the same DJ’s I heard as a kid at some top 40 stations, as an adult—a step which led me to stay obsessed with pop music and culture.)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is the story of Behind Those Beautiful Eyes?

Jake Niemi: I’d tell you but I’d have to kill you. Just kidding. Well, well, well… wouldn’t you like to know what makes me tick? Ha-ha, no, in all seriousness I still remember the morning I wrote that song. It was like the song WANTED out of me, and wouldn’t let me rest until I wrote it. Seriously that’s how it went. (Anna Nalick said it best: “2am and I’m still awake writing a song. If I get it all down on paper it’s no longer inside of me threatening the life it belongs to” in her smash Breathe [2am].) Behind Those Beautiful Eyes has been one of the most popular songs among fans for a while possibly tied with Lush. But the story isn’t as important as the irony that the lyrics and emotion of that song represent. Speaking of universal, I’d say it’s a feeling everyone can identify with, but one people don’t usually touch upon quite that way. I love irony, as does God (clearly) which is a driving force behind the charismatic and mysterious energy I bring to all the music I create. “How do I stop breathing? … How do I forget you when I wouldn’t want to in a million years? How do I erase your perfect face from my mind.” Think about the intellectually clashing nature of such concepts, and yet how readily identifiable that very rationale is. I think that is why the song stands out, because we all have that moment at one point or many points in our lives. Another song that has the same heart-wrenching ‘twist the knife’ kind of emotion that I love right now is, “Perfect” by Hedley. I think that should be song of the year and needs to hit Billboard #1 like yesterday. It says, “I’m not perfect but I’m still learning… I’m not alive if I’m lonely so please don’t leave… Was it something I said? Or just my personality?” I’m like, Whoa! Chills, goose bumps, arm hairs standing straight up. We’ve all been there, and that is what makes perfect ‘Pop.’ That and a killer melody which “Perfect” also has. Go, Hedley!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about Last Summer, who are they and how are you connected to them?

Jake Niemi:
Last Summer from Swartz Creek, MI is clearly one of the most commercially viable acts that I’ve had the pleasure of producing music with. Front man Damon McKenzie has one of the most powerful and accurate set of pipes I’ve ever heard. And that counts vocalists I’ve met and vocalists I’ve never met. I mean, period, one of the best I’ve EVER heard. He sounds like his voice has been pitch corrected even when he’s just goofing around. Impeccable pitch, power and stage presence, that guy has. And his sense for catchy melodies is out of this world. I think I’m sitting on a couple “living legend” type projects right now, and they’re one of them. The other is LaToya Kennedy from Chicago (originally from Saginaw, MI). (Hands down the best vocalist I know.) One of the things that set these two apart from other bands and artists I’ve worked with—besides their talent—up to this point is that they are both very driven both in terms of playing live shows and promoting their work. I love all the people I work with, though, and I don’t take on any acts without commercial appeal.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song which one would it be and why?

Jake Niemi: At the risk of redundancy, I’d be remiss not to say, “Come Undone.” I think I explained why pretty well earlier. My music would never be the same without that song. It’s one that I can never get tired of, and I believe a song that helped define the sound of the 90’s. Pretty powerful stuff…

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Have any upcoming news about yourself....live gig dates....

Jake Niemi: Well, I am actually heading down to Nashville next month to work with my new mentor, a 45X+ Platinum songwriter named Andrew Fromm whose sickeningly endless list of success stories includes Backstreet Boys, N Sync, Selena Gomez, and Britney… He currently has the #9 and climbing song on the Billboard CCM chart and its bizarre trying to wrap my mind around the fact that this guy texts me sometimes—let alone that he respects my work. I remember those artists who had the Max Martin/Rami sound from the late 90’s.

I have come to appreciate where a lot of their infectious hooks come from, which led the acts to be now-legendary. And it’s songwriters like Andrew Fromm that make that happen. With him as my musical guide, I’m producing demos of his songwriting for some notable acts including 33 Miles (INO Records), Nick Carter (of BSB on Jive Records), and Kelly Clarkson (Queen of American Idol, on RCA/Sony Records). But I’m just excited about sitting down at a piano and penning some future potential hits with the guy more than anything. We have some other really huge contacts that are planning to be a part of a potential major label solo debut for me, including Evan “Kidd” Bogart who has been one of the biggest Billboard hit makers and won a Grammy for co-writing Beyonce’s “Halo” with Ryan Tedder.

I want to give kudos to my entire Street Team including the President Andi and the VP Trish who are doing a phenomenal job with helping me build a huge fan base around the world. (Trish actually introduced Andrew Fromm to my MySpace page initially.) And all the fans that have supported me up to this point, I owe it all to you. I vow to be an “Artist for the People.” That’s my brand. I have a passion for compassion that supersedes even my intense love for music. We owe it all to The Man Upstairs lest anyone should boast. ;)

Interview with Adirondack Aromatherapy

From Adirondack Aromatherapy's website...
"Adirondack Aromatherapy is a family owned & operated business established in 2009. We currently have a selection of over 200+ pure therapeutic grade essential oils, ambers, absolutes, resins, hydrosols & and botanical perfumes available. Proprietress Gretchen Morganstern is a published author, writing widely & prolifically on the subject of alternative medicine since the 1990's, and a holistic healer with over 15 years of education & experience in the field of alternative therapies. She is a Reiki Master & Certified Aromatherapist in a National Association for Holisitic Aromatherapy approved program. Husband Thomas Morganstern is a Master Soap Artisan, with over 10 years of experience in the specialty soap industry. Gretchen & Thomas are proud parents of 3 children on the autism spectrum."

Gretchen recently reached out to DDTTRH to let us know about a perfume (called "Lebon") she created in Simon's honor. Here is an excerpt from the blog she shared with us...
"This fragrance was inspired by the entire Le Bon family of London, U.K; Sir Simon has a family full of ladies with fragrant names : Wife Yasmin (Arabic for 'Jasmine'), and daughters Amber Rose, Tallulah Pine, and Saffron Sahara Le Bon.

Indian Amber of rare quality & depth predominates and permeates this blend, while fresh tones of pine lighten & liven the floral euphoric affects of Jasmine & Rose. Threads of saffron infuse in a coconut oil base, adding color, texture & interest. The result is a deep, blissful, heavenly, mystical and mysterious (much like Simon himself...) aromatic experience."

Kirk, DDTTRH: Gretchen...thanks so much for reaching out to us at DDTTRH and letting us know about your new perfume, "Lebon".

What can you tell DDTTRH fans about your perfume "Lebon" that makes it special (besides who it honors)?

Gretchen: 'Le Bon' is unique in the fact that it is created using 100% botanically derived ingredients, whereas commercial, 'designer' & other celebrity inspired perfumes are nearly always entirely made up of synthetics. Alot of love goes into this blend, as I make it in small batches; it takes 6 weeks or longer for the fragrances to infuse together & result in a complete perfume.

Kirk, DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran should be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? If so, why?

Gretchen: Absolutely; and I am confident it will only be a matter of time before they are inducted - but the sooner the better! I consider Duran Duran as creative visionaries & pioneers in the music field, forever fearless in their willingness to try new approaches to their music - and their impact on the music & culture of the 1980's and beyond goes without saying. They have been recording & creating without ceasing for nearly 30 years and never stagnate - every new album is a work of art in it's own right.

Kirk, DDTTRH: What Duran Duran song is the most inspiring to you? Do you ever listen to Duran Duran while you are working with your botanicals?

Gretchen: It's sure is hard to pick one song when they have so many optimistic & inspiring songs! But creatively, The Chauffeur will always be my inspiration as it is such a window into the soul of Simon during the early years of his evolution as an artist. My husband & children can attest to the fact that I listen to Duran Duran everywhere, anywhere, and whenever possible, and I appreciate their willingness to indulge my obsessive Duranie nature. But the song that runs through my head the most when I'm working? - "Come on over to my place.... playing with Geranium..."

Kirk, DDTTRH: Please explain to us what a Reiki Master is?

Gretchen: A Reiki Master has completed three courses of study in the art of Reiki Energy Healing, a Japanese technique of gathering & sending universal life force energy - Reiki Masters are also qualified to teach others the technique. I have studied Reiki since 1995 and finished the final course just last year.

Kirk, DDTTRH: What inspires you about Aromatherapy--why do you do it?

Gretchen: I have a life long love, deep respect and passion for the plant kingdom & it's limitless healing potential. For me personally, incorporating aromatherapy into my daily routines has had a life changing impact.

Kirk, DDTTRH: In reading about you, it seems that a newspaper column you wrote in the 1990's, titled "Alternative Awareness", was pivotal in your life and one of the reasons you created Adirondack Aromatherapy. Tell us more about that.

Gretchen: Sure! Alternative Awareness came into being in 1998, shortly after my son Simon was born (can you guess who he is named after?). He had some health problems and I became extremely disillusioned with the traditional medical community's approach to symptom suppression with prescription drugs as opposed to holistic healing from within. Ultimately I was able to restore Simon's health using simple & gentle herbal remedies in tincture & salve form. After this happened I was on a mission to teach people that they can take a more active role in their own wellness & healing, so I launched the newspaper column in the hope of reaching a widespread audience. It was an amazing opportunity, and from 1998 on, I spent several rewarding years studying, writing, researching & networking with natural healers throughout New York State.

Kirk, DDTTRH: Have you been able to share your perfume with Simon and his family? If not, what would you like to say to Simon about it?

Gretchen: I would love to send word out to Simon & the Le Bon ladies to let them know they have inspired their own fragrance - but most of all I would be the happiest perfumer in the universe if I could somehow send some bottles of 'LeBon' overseas to the Le Bons! I have been hesitant to approach 'Ask Katy' about the perfume out of respect for the family's privacy, and I also do not want this creation to be misconstrued as anything but "a tribute in a bottle" - I did not formulate "LeBon" with commercial gain in mind at all. It was created out of love, respect & a need to create a tangible work of art in honor of someone who has been a main source of inspiration for me these 25+ years.

Interview with Nigel John

In Orlando’s dance scene, few have led the charge toward majority recognition longer or more vigorously than DJ Nigel. Nigel John is a LONG time friend and the all around go to DJ for a smooth and Breakcore beat with an ubiquitous audio and visual treat for the Electronica soul that dwells in us all~ DJ Nigel took some time out of his busy schedule to sit down and talk vinyl and why he thinks Duran Duran should be inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame~

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Nigel John: I think Duran Duran should be inducted to the hall of fame. They have been around for more than 20 years. They have been a strong presence in the both the 80's and 90s music scene. And they have made some very good quality pop songs.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: So tell is a little about yourself and how you got into spinning/DJ-ing?

Nigel John: My name is Nigel John. I have been spinning since 1995. I would consider myself more of a hip hop style disc jockey who plays many different genres of music. I started off playing indie hip hop, downtempo, abstract beats and drum and bass. But as of recently I have been playing older styles including rare groove, older soul, jazz, 80s new wave and whatever that fits into the music. I have been producing music for 10 years and I have been doing art installations and putting together and composing pieces for a modern dance group. When I get hired to do a gig it is more about creating a vibe than idea. My job is more focused on tying the room together like the Big Lebowski, but he was speaking about his rug being stolen. But I can still rock a party. I will always do that.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the music world over the past 30 yrs?

Nigel John: As far as the influences and contributions I can’t really answer that question. I know I got into their music back in the MTV video days. Before MTV became this super annoying corporate mall-ternative piece of shit media outfit...Duran Duran was another band who made good quality radio pop around the time that the music was fun, enjoyable and basically sounded good.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What can your fans and friends expect when you are spinning at a club/venue?

Nigel John: It depends on the club/venue. I prefer to play music for more mature older crowds who are interested in hearing quality music and not just there to get 4 for 1 drink specials. Lately have been really enjoyed catching up on new wave tunes "dark-alternative" than I didn’t know about when I was younger. Like Japan, Gang of Four, Sparks, Depeche Mode and many others. There is so much music out there that you can never hear it all though.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What are your favorite re-mix song and or video from Duran Duran?

Nigel John: Save a Prayer, Come Undone and Union of the Snake

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about the first event you ever played at / put on?

Nigel John: The first event I ever played was for this hip hop group who was doing a night at this cafe like venue. There were about 4 djs, myself included, and they were all hiphop djs, I was the "abstract dj." I bombed. The dance floor cleared right after my first song. It made me realized some things though: Know the crowd you are playing for, you just can’t please everyone and the hip hop audience is totally totally corny and wack. They are just as clueless as the kids who listen to Avril Lavigne and Coldplay and think they are being edgy. F@#$ em....

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How big is your vinyl collection? What do you think of CDJ's?

Nigel John: Probably about 4000 records or maybe more. I gave up counting years ago. CDJs and Serrato djs are cool. But playing vinyl records is sexier…

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Any club dates or upcoming remixes you are working on?

Nigel John: Just some local spots in Orlando. I am putting together some music for a video for a friend whose name is Flambeux. He is a fire breather who does these incredible shows. He lives in New York City. Also I collaborated with the Voci Dancers, a modern dance troop based out Orlando. I also worked with Doug Rhodehamel another Orlando Based artist.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is the funniest thing that ever happened at an event?

Nigel John: Funniest thing. Can’t really recall I am too focused on playing to see the jokes and most of the time it’s too dark.

Interview with Scarlet Soho

Scarlet Soho is the brainchild of vocalist James Knights and synth sidekick Scarlet, with the live set-up completed by Stuart Key. The band are fresh off the road from shows with the likes of Delays, IAMX and Razorlight, and armed with their new single 'Speak Your Mind' and second album 'Warpaint', continue to headline dates across the UK and Europe. In recent press: “Scarlet Soho's synth-drenched take on New Romanticism, plus their astonishing work ethic, mean that they can only get bigger this year.” Record Collector

Scarlet Soho’s James Knights, sat with Ladyaslan and spoke of the band and being on the road and the ever growing campaign Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame~

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Scarlet Soho: YES I THINK THEY DO. FOR A BAND THAT WERE PROBABLY INITIALLY SEEN AS A FASHION STATEMENT I THINK THEY HAVE SHAPED THE SOUND OF A LOT OF CURRENT ELECTRONIC BANDS. THEY HAVE ALWAYS HAD A GOOD POP SENSIBILITY AND GREAT SENSE OF STYLE. I THINK ENOUGH TIME HAS PASSED FOR PEOPLE TO REALISE THAT THEY HAVE WRITTEN SOME GREAT SONGS THAT HAVE HAD A HUGE EFFECT ON POP CULTURE.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What was it like to play with IAMX and Razorlight?

Scarlet Soho: PLAYING WITH IAMX WAS A REAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR US. WE HAD NEVER TOURED OUTSIDE OF THE UK BEFORE AND DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT OF THE EUROPEAN CROWDS. WE HAVE FANS AND FRIENDS THAT HAVE STUCK WITH US PURELY FROM PLAYING THOSE 4 DATES IN GERMANY. WE FOUND IT QUITE STRANGE AS WE ARE USED TO BEING A CLOSE-KNIT LITTLE FAMILY ON THE ROAD AND (ASIDE FROM JAMES AND MYSELF) WE RARELY ARGUE AT ALL. AFTER THE FIRST DATE IN HAMBURG IAMX HAD SACKED THEIR TOUR MANAGER?! VERY ODD. THE SHOWS WERE FUN THOUGH, WE PLAYED REALLY WELL AND TURNED QUITE A FEW HEADS WHICH WAS WONDERFUL!

PLAYING WITH RAZORLIGHT WAS ALSO AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE AS WE HAD NEVER TOURED WITH A BAND WHERE THE SINGER DIDN'T BOTHER SHOWING UP FOR SOUNDCHECK... JUST STROLLED IN FOR THE SHOW, NOT MIXING WITH ANYONE.WE'RE CLOSE AS A BAND WHEN WE TOUR

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness?

Scarlet Soho: I THINK THEY MARRIED THE ELECTRONICS AND POP SIDE OF THINGS INCREDIBLY WELL. AND FOR A BRITISH BAND THEY REALLY MADE AN IMPRESSION ON THE REST OF THE WORLD. THEY KIND OF ERADICATED THE IDEA THAT BRITISH PEOPLE ARE A LITTLE BIT DULL AND HAVE TERRIBLE FASHION SENSE.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: How did your band get penned "the UK's number 1 underground electro-pop extravaganza"?

Scarlet Soho: BECAUSE WE ARE

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favorite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Scarlet Soho: I REALLY LIKE 'THE CHAUFFEUR' ACTUALLY. ALTHOUGH 'PLANET EARTH' HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART AS WE USED TO COVER IT IN THE VERY VERY EARLY DAYS OF THE BAND.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: what was it like to work with Flock of Seagulls?

Scarlet Soho: IT WAS AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY. IT WAS A TOUR THAT WE DIDN'T THINK WE'D GET. WE DID A LOAD OF SHOWS WITH THEM IN THE UK BEFORE HEADING OUT TO EUROPE WITH ZOOT WOMAN. A LOVELY BUNCH OF PEOPLE. THE ONLY ORIGINAL MEMBER IS THE SINGER SO WE WEREN'T SURE HOW BUSY THE SHOWS WOULD BE. WE SHOULDN'T'VE WORRIED, EVERY SHOW WAS REALLY FULL AND THE CROWD WERE TOTALLY ENTHUSIASTIC. A LOT OF TEENAGE BOYS AS APPARENTLY ONE OF THEIR TRACKS WAS USED ON 'VICE CITY' COMPUTER GAME(?!) I CAN'T ADMIT TO KNOWING MUCH ABOUT THIS. IT WAS A REALLY LAID BACK ATTITUDE ON THE ROAD AS THEY ARE A LOT OLDER THAN US. WE HEARD SOME STORIES THOUGH... THINGS I CANNOT DIVULGE!!!

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Scarlet Soho: NOW I CAN ACTUALLY PLAY BASS I'D BE UP FOR GIVING 'PLANET EARTH' ANOTHER TRY!

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Tell us about your label Major Records, how did they find you?

Scarlet Soho: MAJOR PUT OUT OUR 2ND ALBUM. WE'RE JUST FINISHING UP THE PROMOTIONAL WORK FOR THAT NOW WITH A FEW DATES ACROSS EUROPE THEN WE ARE ENDING ONE CHAPTER AND STARTING ANOTHER. ALBUM NUMBER 3 IS ALMOST SET TO GO - STUDIO IS BOOKED, SONGS ARE WRITTEN! MAJOR FOUND US THROUGH THE IAMX SHOWS REALLY. Artist Appreciation Week!!!

DDTTRH is pleased to announce the addition of 'Artist Appreciation Week', every second week of the month. On Monday, Wednesdays, and Saturdays of this week (we may postpone Official Business Tuesdays and Artist Interview Fridays—we are still deciding) we will 'spotlight' an artist from our 'Supporters' List as shown on our ddttrh.info site.

This means that we will talk about them in our blogs and posts and post links to their music, videos, or art. We may include pictures of them in our fan photos sections and (if they are a band) mix some of their music in with Duran Duran's on our players (if the music is available). Basically, we will 'talk them up' to you (our fans) giving the artist exposure to Duranies around the world.

We hope this will accomplish three things...1) Encourage artists to 'speak out' about their support to our cause (whether by email, signing our petition, or through an interview), 2) Increase the exposure of Duranies to artists influenced or supportive of Duran Duran and the DDTTRH effort, and 3) As Artist support grows, we hope excitement for DDTTRH will grow as well!

The announcement of the chosen artist will occur in the official business Tuesday prior to that second week. If anyone has any questions, comments, or suggestions for this newly created event, please contact Kirk through the ddttrh.info site.

Bands, musicians, and artists: if you would like to show your support through an interview, please contact Anitra or Kirk through the ddttrh.info site. Also, please find a link to our petition also at ddttrh.info.

'My Antarctica' Regards,
Kirk Harrington
Lead Effort Organizer, Duran Duran to the Rock Hall - Official Effort (DDTTRH)

Special Event Quiz Contest...3 of 3

Thanks everyone who participated in today's special event quiz question contest! The last quiz question is 'Editor's Choice' from DDTTRH's star editor, Josie Beaudoin! Same rules apply...go to the ddttrh.info site and click 'Contact' to send your answer to the admin who handles contests. The first to answer correctly wins!

Thanks and good luck!

Josie's question:
#3--Name the song that was removed from the debut album for its American release?

The winner of this contest will win the 'Sing Blue Silver' DVD, new and factory sealed!

DVD Description:
In 1984 Duran Duran undertook the hugely ambitious "Arena" tour. Apart from a fleeting appearance at 1985's "Live Aid" concert, this series of shows was the last time the original line up of the band performed together until their successful reunion in 2003. They took film director Russell Mulcahy along for the ride, and he executed the footage in style by producing the concert film ARENA. SING BLUE SILVER is designed as a complimentary release to ARENA, and includes previously unseen footage that failed to make the final cut of the film. An intriguing look at one of the hottest bands of the '80s, this release offers a behind the scenes glimpse at the band who, for many, provided the soundtrack of the decade.

Special Event, Quiz Contest #2 of 3

Here is the second of three quiz contests for our special event. Same rules as the previous quiz...first to send a message to the admin in charge of contests (under the ddttrh.info 'contact' link) wins the prize! This question also from Andy 'Durandy' Golub:

#2. Which photographer conducted the band's first official photo session?

The winner of this contest will receive the following prize...a collection of 11 of Duran Duran's videos on DVD (and I am assured that this is a new sealed DVD and not a bootleg!). Good Luck!

Interview with Your Vegas

Your Vegas are an English rock band from Leeds, England, currently based in New York City. The band comprises Coyle Girelli (vocals, guitar), Mat Steel (guitar, vocals), Mark Heaton (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Jon Langford (bass) and Mal Taylor (drums).

Girelli, Steel and Langford started playing music together while attending Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley, West Yorkshire. Their first band was called Orka but they later changed their name to Salvadore. In December 2004 they joined forces with Heaton, a friend from the vibrant Leeds music scene and enlisted the services of Taylor, an old school friend, and formed Your Vegas.

Coyle Girelli has been quoted in many texts in regards to the genesis of Your Vegas and here is what he had to say about it:

How does a band from a little town outside of Leeds end up going by the name Your Vegas? “It was one of our first songs,” says the band’s singer Coyle Girelli. “Your Vegas seemed to sum us up. It’s about escaping to a different place, wherever that is.”

Escape, along with brotherhood, is at the core of Your Vegas. Four of the five band members grew up in a small suburb of Leeds called Otley. Forming a band came naturally; according to Girelli. “There aren’t many people in Otley. You find three other people near the same age into music, you’re probably going to meet up and form a band.”

At first, the concept of escape simply meant finding a sound. The group started out as a grungy, Nirvana-influenced group, but that slowly changed. A keyboardist was added; the music opened up. “Making a racket turned into thinking about songs,” says guitarist Mat Steel, who offers up U2 and Depeche Mode as influences (as for contemporaries, he mentions Coldplay and The Killers and Duran Duran).

In 2008, the band was continuously on the road across the US and Canada as they completed six major north American tours. After supporting The Bravery on two tours, they opened up for Duran Duran on their 2008 Red Carpet Massacre Tour of North America throughout April and May and then again during the second leg of the tour in December. *Ladyaslan was at this show in Orlando at the New UCF Arena and it was a GREAT show and Your Vegas had the auidence on their feet dancing, they had put out an incredible vibe to start the evening for us; and that is when me and my fellow Duranies knew we had found a kick ass new band to add to our music repitore~

Your Vegas took time out of their busy schedule to sit with Ladyaslan and discuss the campaign: Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and their new album, which is getting ready to drop in the Fall of 2010; here’s the interview~

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Your Vegas: Yes definitely. They are without doubt one of the most influential bands of the of the last 30 years and their sound and influence is still clearly heard in many different genres of music today.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to tour with Duran Duran on the RCM tour in 2008? What is your fondest memory?

Your Vegas: It was an amazing experience touring twice with Duran Duran in 2008. As a band just starting out in the industry, being around them and able to watch them every night gave us invaluable insight into just what it takes to be a band still selling out huge venues, still influential and still relevant after over 30 years...and most importantly still having fun and still enjoying it. They're also amazing guys and made it very easy for us.

I think my fondest memory is the last show of the first tour when we played at Central Park in New York. It was a special setting, an amazing show and to walk off stage to a round of applause from a band that had inspired me throughout most of my life was very special.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: You have a Wikipedia article, but as it is easy to edit I was wondering if there is anything about you and your band mates (fact or fiction) that you would like to see added to your bio?

Your Vegas: Hmmm? Let me think. I once witnessed Mal Taylor tackle World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf in a charity football match we played in for Hollywood United over in LA. I never ever in my life thought I would witness such an insult to the 'beautiful game' ha-ha!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran video and song?

Your Vegas: My favourite video is probably Rio. It's simply one of the best videos of all time. The song, Rio, is classic and instantly recognizable. It’s full of life, colour, and limitless energy and fun. The video is totally random and suits the song perfectly. I think my favorite Duran Duran song is Girls on Film. Actually, it depends on my mood...Girls on Film or Come Undone.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Had Duran Duran inspired any of the band members and if so what area of your music did they inspire?

Your Vegas: Yeh! They are a big influence on our music and our sense of being a band. They wrote the blueprint for being a fashion conscious band with an edge that rocks hard but that has a pop sensibility at its core. I'd say we fit somewhere in that world.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What are you plans for the future…anything you would like to share?

Your Vegas: Thank you for taking the time to include us in this. We're working hard here in New York on finishing our second record that will be out in the fall this year so look out for plenty more tour dates coming up at the end of summer, new singles, videos, and live streams…the works!!

Interview with Lunar Dusk

Aerial is the front man of Lunar Dusk he was formally in the London based Cryptonic Love Revival a dark wave electro band~I came upon Aerial last year whilst I lived abroad in Europe and just felt the darkling energy and industrial beats in his music obviously he has some 80’s influences in his style and music as he vents his point of view on the social inequalities and atrocities of daily life on planet Earth. Lunar Dusk granted an interview with Ladyaslan; to share his opinion on his music and our campaign of Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame~

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Lunar Dusk: To be fair, I can’t believe they haven’t been inducted already! Their music has had an immeasurable influence on so many artists. I feel they have contributed a distinct feel, atmosphere and sound to music, attracting fans of many alternative genres. They are true musical innovators, and their legacy will go on to inspire countless generations of musicians to come.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What does the term "Vampire Rave" mean to you?

Lunar Dusk: To me personally, the term ‘Vampire Rave’ is when all us freakoids out there, venture out from our crypts, and simply let our hair down, so to speak! Everything in nature is balanced, and darklings, in whatever form of self expression feels natural, also need to explore their positive energy. We are creatures of habit, even in the nocturnal shadows of society...it is not all doom and gloom, well it usually is, but darklings need to socialise and have fun too!

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What contributions do you feel Duran Duran has made in the world of electro music in the 30+ yrs of their successful career?

Lunar Dusk: Put simply, they have been leaders in this field. I feel their contribution to the electro scene can never be understated. They are one of the truly inspirational and innovative groups, combining electronic and rock music in a fundamentally unique and special way. Many artists today simply wouldn't exist as we know them without their influence.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What was the genesis behind the song Tranquility?

Lunar Dusk: ‘Tranquility’ is all about hope, and the struggle of the compassionate minority against one of the genuine evils in this world; corporate greed and globalization, and the associated corruption, exploitation and rape of natural resources. These unethical, imperialist industries have total power, and go about their business without any care for the negative repercussions to our environment, the fragile eco system and future generations, over profit, creating perverse wealth distribution. It doesn’t need to be this way, but you have to make a stand for real change. We are all human, we are all one species, and this insane wealth distribution will need to be globally balanced if we want a humane future for all.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran song and video?
Lunar Dusk: 'Girls on Film' has a fantastic video (obviously!) but I would have to say my favourite song would be 'Hungry Like The Wolf', I adore the video too, but this song has such a haunting atmosphere and ambience surrounding it.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is a crowd favorite when you play live?

Lunar Dusk: LOL I am still working on my debut material, and haven’t performed my debut gig yet! Hopefully there will be one or two, we shall see! I have received some beautiful comments about the 4 profile songs; I have met so many really sweet and fascinating people on MySpace, and they really inspire me to write and play live. Lunar Dusk was always meant to be a live act, and I can’t wait to begin!

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: Tell us a little about Lunae Eclipse Records, how did the two of you connect?

Lunar Dusk: Lunae Eclipse Records is the label I run, so the connection was pretty easy! It will be the platform for future Lunar Dusk and Lunar Crypt releases, and any related videos. I have always been disillusioned by the music industry and decided I wanted to keep complete control of my sound and direction. The vast majority of labels, as we all know, are purely concerned with sales and marketing potential, and this doesn’t interest me at all. It removes all the magick and feeling. I have read far too many horror stories of bands being bribed by a deal, just to end up being repackaged and losing their original vision and identity. If you are in this for the money, you may as well be a bloody accountant instead! Running a small label involves a lot of additional hard work, but I feel it is the right path for me.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song which would it be?

Lunar Dusk: 'A View To A Kill' would be amazing; I really admire the power and drive throughout that song, although I admit I’m not the biggest fan of remakes. I feel original works are best expressed by their respective creator(s)! I prefer to be inspired by the past, but think to the future.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What is new...in the horizon of Lunar Dusk? What can fans look forward too?

Lunar Dusk: Right now I am focusing primarily on finishing the rebuilding of Trick or Treat Recording Studios in South London. It’s taking a while, but I want to remain patient and make it the best studio I can. I have 4 or 5 new Lunar Dusk songs on the horizon, and I can’t wait to get down to recording them. Once this is done, my main focus will switch to playing live shows to coincide with an official release. Playing live has to be one of the most exhilarating experiences there can be! I performed several shows with the previous band I was in, Cryptonic Love Revival and the feeling and energy is beyond addictive!

Interview with Uru

Uru is: Vocals, Piano, Keys, Synths, Backing Vocals, and Percussion! This Nigerian born girl who dances to the beat of her own drum is proud to be from Africa, but even more happy to be "a child of the globe". Growing up on three Continents, this singer/songwriter has been influenced by cultures from around the world. As well as English and other languages, she speaks her native African tongue, Igbo. Ura put some time aside and sat down with me, Ladyaslan, and discussed her music and new album and her thoughts on our campaign of Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame~

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Uru: Actually, the question should be, “Why are they not already”?!Obviously they were pioneers of a great sound and style that has influenced the music industry up till today.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Your prose, Butter Cakes in a Basket, what was the influence behind that writing?

Uru: Something I saw, somewhere in my mind. That’s how it works for me. “Butter Cakes in Baskets”, is a perfect place caught in time. My reality is what I create. Imagination is one of the greatest gifts we all possess, but only if we use it. If you think it and believe it, you create it.

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness?

Uru: Well as I said before, musically they have influenced so many, but speak of fashion…. They rocked it! Unafraid, and so awesome! You can easily see their influence today in many bands and all. And they have always been very socially aware and involved in humanitarian efforts across the globe.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: With so much tragedy in the world; such as the recent “Gulf Oil Spill” stateside and the ongoing issues in the Delta Region (of your country) the abuse and annihilation of the “Nigerian Witch Children” where do you find the solace to be so positive and march forward?

Uru: If I were to give in to the negativity, the negativity wins. I try to stay positive (as hard as that may be sometimes). I find solace in trying to make a difference. There is power in words. I am singer, poet and songwriter. My voice and my words are my weapon against negativity.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favorite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Uru: Wow there are so many great songs, but “Ordinary World”, is special. I love the video too.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: How did you become involved in being a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations?

Uru: I was approached by an organization within the U.N. I accepted of course. All I’ve ever wanted to do apart from create great music and sing, was to make a positive change in the world. We all can do that if only we try.

My AIDS Awareness Campaign with my song “Wrap Up” has been very successful in spreading the message of safe sex. Nobody should be dying of AIDS from simple ignorance of how to protect themselves.

On my new Album, I wrote a song “Dear Hunter”, inspired by what I had seen in the Delta region of Nigeria (my country). The land and the people have been ravaged because of what the big oil companies have done there. I released the song early because after the outrage of the “Oil Spill”, here in The U.S., I thought people should see what’s been quietly going on in Africa. Way beyond an “Oil Spill”! More like a complete destruction. Where is the outrage for that? To hear “Wrap Up” and “Dear Hunter”: please see my blog and lyrics for “Dear Hunter” http://blogs.myspace.com/urumusic

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Uru: I don’t know. If a song is already great, sometimes a remake just can’t do it justice. On my new Album I’ve done my first remake of a huge hit from way back, but still, I wrote into it, added my own lyrics and music, and totally re-arranged it. I won’t say the name of the song now. You’ll hear it when it comes out!

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Who is Tantrum Records? How did they find you?

Uru: Tantrum Records is a multifaceted label. They have given me the support that any artist could only dream of. They were the first and only label to understand that I am an African artist with a diverse sound. Much respect!

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think 80’s bands, such as Duran Duran, or any “New Wave” or “Synth Pop” band have a chance in the music world as it is today; too share the airwaves, as in a rebirth of retro bands?

Uru: I think everything is possible with music. Music is a universal language. Times may change, but good music will always stay. Yes, Duran Duran can stand their ground today.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Any tour dates or new songs in the mix? What can your fans expect from you this year?

Uru: This year… New T.V. Show and new Album dropping soon! I’m so excited! Hope everyone will be too!

Interview with Mortuary Mary

Mortuary Mary is a breath of fresh night air. She is a work of gothic art infused with bits of black eyeliner and synth pop. She is fearless and imaginative and intoxicated with life. Mortuary Mary is an up and coming poet and artist of the sublime and surreal. Mortuary Mary sat down with Ladyaslan and shared a poem specifically written for the Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and shared her thoughts on the boys…here is the interview!

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: Do you feel Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

MM: Of course DD deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame….way OVER DUE!
Ladyaslan: What contributions do you feel DD has made in the music and fashion industry?

MM: They influenced the culture of music at that VERY moment and fashion and music of the 80's. Everywhere you looked, there were the suits, haircuts in various colors and music that tried so hard to imitate a perfect thing…which was the EIGHTIES; the era of neon colors and MTV which Duran Duran mastered!

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What inspired your Duran Duran poem?

MM: Their songs inspired me greatly. I listened to their Greatest Hits album while writing and remembered the first times that I heard them and how they made me feel then and now.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What should friends and fans be looking fwd to from you?

MM: I'm working on a book of poetry called "Vermillion Dreams" and I do some writing on Helium.com under the name J.L. McKenzie. ChEcK me OUT~

Wild Boys

Stylish and sleek
In my mind
And in my dreams
Perfectly pressed

You had Bond
On the tongue
And you took me
To no Ordinary World

I know a girl
Called Rio
She is with
The Girls on Film

When I Come Undone
You picked me up
You are Notorious
In the streets

You made me
Hungry Like the Wolf
For your silver tones
Like the Wild Boys you are

There is a
New Moon on Monday
Rising in my sleep
I will Save a Prayer for you

No one can match you
Your sound and look
Takes me back to
Better times

Interview with Mystic Lady

A Chanteuse of formidable prose and art, which is the Mystic Lady poetess. This English born Mystic Lady, who dances to the beat of her own drum is proud to be informed and active in Human Rights issues and she’s a manic recyclist, but even more happy to be "a child of Silver and Blue” a prose she helped inspire by Ladyaslan

The Mystic Lady loves philosophy and painting and all things intellectual and has an artisanship that is that of a surreal artist living in the early 20th century with a 21st century brain~( lil Adam Ant line…) Music flows through the veins of the poetess…melody…lyrics…bass…and synth pumps her retro heart. The mystic Lady has sat down with Ladyaslan; keeper of Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame campaign and let her inner 80’s child loose with some keen Q&A…

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Mystic Lady: I think they deserve to get in for old time sake for friends and family and all those who where Duranies many eons ago and still are. I was a Japany, gutter heart and baby Banshee, but my cousin was a Duranie and I remember doing her make up for a Duran concert and her coming back from the gig and going on and on about how much John Taylor fancied her...........Yeah right! If Lady Aslan thinks they deserve the hall of fame who I am to disagree?............scoff scoff :)

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What contributions do you feel Duran Duran offered to the music and fashion industry over the past 30 yrs?

Mystic Lady: Ha-ha ,those guys from Duran Duran probably dated all the fashion models out there in the 80s ,and as for the music industry bands like Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, and ABC probably took mainstream British electro Pop to the states, so for that they certainly can be contributed, probably a little mainstream for us cynical Brits but I’m sure they where a great export item in the states......and somewhat still are

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: How did you get involved with Deep Tissue Magazine?

Mystic Lady: I wrote for 10k poets a few times over the last couple of years and was a featured poet ,Glen who runs Deep tissue ,has been doing the same sort of thing with these e-zines but also features artists and short stories etc. Hopefully I will be contributing in Junes issue too soon. Some great writers in both zines.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: Your paintings scream femininity and blossoming of womanhood; what inspires you to paint?

Mystic Lady: The ever changing ,magical and mysterious hues of nature inspire me, of it, I like to celebrate nature in all its glory through my paintings. I like to give my paintings as gifts to friend’s family or hang it in my home.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What music do you play, if any, when you create your poems or paintings?

Mystic Lady: Whatever is on my media player at the time, I'm fan of indie alternative music , painting is so magical you can get lost in it for hours without realizing so much time has elapsed, when I’m writing Its usually quiet as I like to hear the words "talking" around in my head when I form the back bones of any poem I’m working on.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What inspires you to write your wonderful prose?

Mystic Lady: Anything inspires me, but I mainly write from an analytical realistic perspective, it’s usually serious heartfelt topics, being a humanitarian and a straight talking passionate soul. I hate to see people suffer or be used and abused, and would like to do anything to speak up about global poverty issues and saving the planet, anti war, greedy men in grey suits annoy me and I’m always writing about them!

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: On your MySpace page you have said: "Life is a rare and miraculous thing, don’t use it , don't abuse it, BE TOLERANT and please don't blow it up..." what made you post such a profound and brilliant statement?

Mystic Lady: If someone was to lock me up in a box and throw me into the sea, I would still shout out statements such as these, too much blood is being spilled but" NOT IN MY NAME "please , we should be signing peace treaties, loving and sharing with our neighbours and saying NO to revenge .

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What is your favorite painting that you have created?

Mystic Lady: My painting is just a hobby , it’s very basic, I don’t really take it seriously, it’s very therapeutic and relaxing to paint, but when I get out my old paintings and look at them, I am surprised I have actually painted them, probably my mystic tree which I gave to my sister as a wedding gift.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What is your favorite poem that you have written?

Mystic Lady: I’ve been in my archives this month and one or two of them gave me goose bumps when I read & recorded them ,probably Beast inside or Cryogenics freeze being quite passionate poems, Lady Samurai, and Oil spill have been quite popular with other people.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What poets and painters have influenced you?

Mystic Lady: Painters I have always adored and still do are Gogh ,Dali, Picasso and Munch I was lucky enough to see the original of Munch’s sick child in London ,the cubist pieces by Picasso are just something else. There is a guy called S. Sakamoto on my art page and he is just awesome, my MySpace friend Jacob Himes is great, I just love all art forms surreal or any other ...........it really appeals to my expressive nature. As for poets ,everyone is a poet they just don’t know it! , I studied a lot of Wilfred Owen at school, he is probably responsible for my anti war stance.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: Mail Order Bride, what was the motivation behind that intense and raw poem?

Mystic Lady: It was the desperate plight of impoverished women who live in the Bangkok slums ,who leave their families and cultures behind for a slice of western paradise.

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What does the term "New Romantic" mean to you?

Mystic Lady: Whenever I hear the term of new romantic I think of Steve Strange, Fade to Gray and Duran Duran dancing to Planet Earth. Ruffle shirts and men in makeup and a really exciting era gone by, gone bye bye, now we are just OLD romantics.......ha-ha!

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran video and song?

Mystic Lady: I like Ordinary World and The Chauffer.....I must say Simon Le bon has aged very well compared to David Sylvian…must be the plastic surgery !!!!( JOKE )

Ladyaslan, DDTTRH: You said you love to talk of England, what is the one thing you would say to someone to sum up jolly ole England?

Mystic Lady: Its bloody freezing ..............but the roses really do bloom in summer..................
