Interview with Adam Absinthe

Adam Absinthe is already a self proclaimed star. He just awaits a record label to soon make him a bigger one. He has had countless hits on his website worldwide most notably the U.S., Great Britain. and Canada, done several internet and radio interviews, and fills the first five pages of a Google search. He's done this all on his own. He is an accomplished model working with top photographers, and has been successfully selling merchandise on his online market where he also has a book published. He has marketed himself to a broad fan base across the world including all types of people because of his outrageous rants and eye catching image.

After a Motley Crue lifestyle preceded by a crazy childhood, and a long period looking for a band in the Boston area he decided to move to Hollywood and began a solo career knowing he wanted things his way, if he was going to blow up to epic proportions in the vain of Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, and Bjork.

I am not sure if Adam is like Manson or Bjork…he definitely has a unique style and persona that is older than him. He really resembles the 80’s in style and make-up & has nailed the look.

Adam Absinthe took the time out of his very busy schedule to chat with me; Ladyaslan, on his ideas of stardom and artists and our campaign Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Adam Absinthe: Absolutely. I have never owned an album of theirs, but their impact on the music scene has affected a handful of my favorite artists. They are the quintessential 80’s band, therefore everyone knows who they are and it’d be a shame to see them denied being inducted to the Hall of Fame. I mean how many hits do you need to have before you’re considered famous enough for a hall of Fame?

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about the book you wrote, Red, Raw, & Swhore...how did you come up with the title?

Adam Absinthe: It’s a collection of poems, lyrics, and artwork I made before Adam Absinthe was Adam Absinthe. After I made a name for myself, I decided to release it because I was having so much difficulty putting together a band and I wanted something for the fans to have. It’s a very personal look inside of me from those years when I first was on my own, facing the world after getting kicked out of my house. The title is just a word play because the book encompasses everything from sexual deviations to the deepest sense of emotional pain. I’m glad I’m not in that state of mind anymore, but it’s a necessary product of mine especially since I never did get a full band together for a full length album. There are some esoteric songs in there that were actually channeled through me either by a higher source or the CIA…

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness over the past 30 yrs?

Adam Absinthe: Like I stated before, they influenced most of my influences, especially in the sense of style. Image has always been a big part of my art, and the artists who inspire me. Men with fashion, good hair, and makeup is a lot more common than it used to be and it can definitely be attributed back to a group like Duran Duran.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to land a lead role in a national commercial? Which commercial was it?

Adam Absinthe: I landed a role in a Guitar Center commercial. I had landed a big paying role in an Axe commercial and was going to film in Argentina and then something mysterious happened and it fell through. I became fed up with acting and was on the verge of quitting. I went to the Guitar Center audition later that month, half assed it and forgot about it after. Ironically, I got the part. It was a lot of fun breaking guitars on stage and working with other up and coming actors. Oddly enough once, I started booking more and more work, is when I quit acting to go to college.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favourite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Adam Absinthe: I can’t pick out a favourite of either because I haven’t spent the time going through every album or all the videos on YouTube, but I can say that I really like the video and the symbolism in Out of My Mind. Come to think of it, I really like the song too.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What film did you work in with Juliette Lewis and Orlando Bloom? What was it like to share the screen with them?

Adam Absinthe: The film is called Sympathy for Delicious. It has not been released yet. The experience was nerve racking and amazing. I ended up getting a Sag extra role for the film, but everyone from Juliet to the makeup people loved working with me and I got to do some improv with them. The director was Mark Ruffalo who was also very nice. Due to being hired as an extra initially, you’ll see me in the films scene but not in the credits.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Adam Absinthe: I would love to cover Come Undone.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to also work with Ed Harris? What movie was it? How did you land the role?

Adam Absinthe: Unfortunately Ed Harris was not on set that day, but I did get to do my scene with Brian Presley, who most people know from soap operas like Port Charles. The movie is called Once Fallen and is done, but waiting for distribution. It played here at The Orange Country Film Festival, but I was in LA that night, and of course I was in OC when it played at The Beverly Hills Film Festival. The part made me eligible to join the Screen Actors Guild which is very difficult. I landed the role by luck, which is so prevalent in Hollywood.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Has Duran Duran inspired any of your musical work? If so, in which areas have they influenced?

Adam Absinthe: In a roundabout way they have. There’s a handful of bands I’m supposed to like; Depeche Mode, The Cure, Duran Duran, and Gary Numan to name a few. I am familiar with plenty of these bands songs, but the time gap is for the generation before mine which is why my favourite artists are often influenced by them. So in a way, they have influenced my image and using electronic elements in creating music through a sort of evolutionary trickle down method. In another way they influenced people with occult symbolism on there cd’s, videos, and in their lyrics.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Which would you prefer...worldwide underground fame or worldwide pop icon?

Adam Absinthe: Probably underground fame. Being a pop icon comes with a cost. A pop icon is usually at the whim of higher powers and lacks control of their career, themselves, and eventually loses it all. The bigger you get the more likely you are to shave your head, check into rehab, and make everyone forget you used to be in a Disney show. Wink. Pop icons don’t own the media so it can be used to destroy them. There’s not a lot of room for art. I’m happy being me, and not Lindsay Lohan or Rihanna.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Andy Warhol once said: "An artist is somebody who produces things that people don't need to have." What comes to mind when reading his quote?

Adam Absinthe: I personally don’t consider Andy Warhol an artist. He’s more of a pop icon, like I mentioned before. He is also a shell used for holding large quantities of drugs. Everything I need in life for peace and fulfilment comes from some sort of art whether it be, music, literary, martial, etc. I would say he actually defined corporations rather than artists. Things we don’t need to have can’t have any passion behind them. So I’d have to disagree with him. A great era comes to mind with his name but it’s hardly because of him.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What kind of music do you play? It’s not quite traditional American pop and it’s not quite Dark Wave....how would you describe it?

Adam Absinthe: I make music that moves me. Freedom, intelligence, emotion, and pleasure, move me. For example, if I want to have guitars and industrial drums with Shakuhachi’s and a rain sample because it sounds like rebirth, then that’s what I make. With that said, I never try to be a certain genre although people like to put me into the Goth, industrial category because I wear makeup, and use a lot of electronic elements in my music.

Anything you want to share with your fans....new releases....live gigs.....insanity?

The insanity has subsided, after a lot of growth over the years. I’m currently in college to work on my strongest assets, art and intellect. It’s actually giving me the freedom to finally work on my memoir, artworks, and eventually a true solo album. I can also use student loans to buy products to make myself as attractive as Duran Duran.

Interview with Roughhausen

J.S. Stoddard… His legacy speaks volumes.

He played guitar on Front Line Assembly’s seminal Album, “Caustic Grip”ripping a wall of riffs into EBM before it became the Flavor of the week. He was a member of the Gothic masterpiece Will, and found a way to mix feedback with melody to create beauty and tragedy. He assaulted our senses with a wall and hate filled noise and power riffs mixed with a cacophony of militant drums on the First Decree album. Now he pounds relentlessly at our collective ass-shaking, machine with his new project Roughhausen. With a total of over 40 albums to his credit he seems to just keep going… The project Roughhausen was born out of a series of late night, drug fueled, and sonic atrocities against man and God in the bowels of the Subconscious Studio complexes. Those sessions eventually became the material found on the First Roughhausen release, "Defenestrated". That record featured the talents of Alistar Jamison (R.I.P.), Dwayne Goetell (R.I.P.), John McRae, Kevin key, Chris Peterson, Sam Salmon and was a psychotic dirge filled opus that sounded like the bowels of hell had opened its sphincter for 47 mins of pain.

Addiction, madness, withdrawal and death marred the next few years, much traveling suffering and cleansing was required before RH was able to begin again…. R O U G H H A U S E N is • E l e c t r o • P o w e r N o i z e • G o t h i c • D&B • I n d u s t r i a l H o u s e • E B M •

J.S. chatted with Ladyaslan on his views about the DDTTRH campaign and his tongue & cheek views on music and the industry and how one should NOT take life so seriously~ here the colorful and fun interview with Roughhausen~

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Roughhausen: Absolutely, their contribution to Popular/electronic music has been immense. Everybody knows their name and at least one song, which in itself speak volumes about the size of their impact on popular culture and music. Additionally, “Hungry like the Wolf” has become a common usage term for horny. Love them or hate them you know who they are, and you know their songs.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you come up with the name Roughhausen? What does it mean?

Roughhausen: Rough housing is a slang term that means making noise/playing roughly or acting foolishly,... especially among little kids, you know something your mom would yell at you, "hey cut out all that rough housing." Years ago I was dating this German chick and sometimes she used to show up at my place at 4 am drunk and want to fuck. One night she showed up drunk on like a Tues night and I was too tired to fuck so I said no... She gets angry starts yelling and WRESTLING and I grabbed her and said "stop this fucking rough housing" she got all quiet and said, "Rough_haus en? What is dis Rough_haus en?" …just the way she said it with this thick German accent made me laugh. Right away as soon as she said it, I was like fuck yea... that is a good band name…

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Has Duran Duran inspired you and your band's music in anyway? In which areas have they influenced you?

Roughhausen: Absolutely not. I have enormous respect for what they do and their talent, but it is not something that entered into my sphere of conscious emulation. As an artist working in electronic music sure… they expanded the popular acceptance of synths as an instrument, and that has helped me. As a teenage boy looking to get laid sure… they definitely opened many doors and legs as it were, by giving legions of teenaged female fans masturbatory fodder and sexual archetypal characters to try and emulate, that helped me immensely, (thanks guys), but as a working musician not really directly… more indirectly. They are very good at what they do; it is just not for me. I have always been about the heavy, the mean and the dank.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: You have played on / made over 40 albums-tell us about that journey and what did you learn as a band/musician from all that work?

Roughhausen: I learned not to take myself so seriously and to enjoy my work. I am very lucky to be doing this. I try enjoy the ride and work with people I like. I can pick who I work with or work for now, that is a good place to be. When I was younger I did not have that liberty and made a lot of bad choices that led to ugly working situations.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran song and video?

Roughhausen: Girls on Film without a doubt. That was a serious piece of soft core porn in its time that really pushed the envelope and sexual stereotypes. They pretty much invented metro-sexual.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is something that fans would be shocked to learn about you and the band?

Roughhausen: We are all virgins and are on Team Jesus. GO Team Christ!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions do you feel Duran Duran has made to the world of music and fashion in the past 30 yrs?

Roughhausen: shit…. they covered the bases, set standards for video, glam, fashion, extravagance… huge, epic world-wide hits and their fan base is pretty friggin varied. That in itself is a huge contribution. I think they were one of the first bands to really embrace video as not just a marketing tool but as an art form in itself. Bowie understood the value of the hyper-image but he came before the advent of the medium in its true form. Duran Duran came alone and just grabbed the frame and filled it with these lush sensual images of exotic women and sweaty tropical nights. That marriage of the exotic and the unknown combined with well crafted pop songs was a fucking masterstroke. They married fashion and music in a much more visceral and visual way than anybody had before.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you get involved in the band Roughhausen?

Roughhausen: I am Roughhausen, each album has been a different set of friends and players coming together to add to the mix but the core is me. The last three releases have included the incredibly talented and sexy Miss Peggy Lin on Bass, we have a great working relationship, and she understands what I need and crosses over genres with ease so she has become a standard feature of RH. Actually it is pretty hard for me to imagine RH without her.>

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What Duran song would you like to remake if you could remake one?

Roughhausen: Again ‘Girls on Film” I actually think that the topic is quite sinister, it lends itself to being darkened up quite easily. I would love to take that on but I fear that license agreement is way beyond my pay grade.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about the Asian Music Fest you currently played...how did you feel about having that opportunity as a person and how did it affect the band?

Roughhausen: Actually it is a series of festivals. Now is the music festival season here in Asia as well as Europe and we are booked to play all over the place, what I was commenting on earlier was that we are also booked to play some Metal festivals. We are by no means a metal band , however there is no real hard core electro or industrial rock scene here so we get booked at metal events a lot just because the promoters don’t know what to do with us. I just think it is very cool to see all those metal heads start nodding by song 2 and banging by three. Winning over a fresh crowd is always a wonderful feeling. Winning over a Death metal crowd hungry for blood and thrash with hard as fuck beats and electronic music is an amazing feeling.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Will you have any U.S. tour dates? Any Europe tour dates?

Roughhausen: Working on an EU tour. Japan again in Nov, we love touring Japan; delicious hello clitty girls, great food, incredible venues, and top notch sound crews. What is not to love? As for the US we are talking with our US label Shinto Records and exploring the possibility.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Anything new in store for the fans to be on the look for?

Roughhausen: Shinto Records will have an exclusive on their upcoming DISK Sin-Faktory 2. Shinto is also doing a label sampler CD with a well known European Gothic magazine, we have a spot on that as well. We also have a song/video on the European Label EchoZone’s new Compilation CD/DVD Gothic Visions Vol.2 that one also includes a write up in the magazine. If you are in Asia I have 5 or 6 CDs coming out in the next 2 months that I did production on. Everything from Thrash metal to Post Rock. Just check the site www.roughhausen.com for updates.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: The quote "quoth the raven nevermore" what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Roughhausen: As much as I love Poe… James Earle Jones reading it pops into my head first now, after that the eternal pallid beauty of Goth chicks.

Interview with Calabrese

"Quite simply, Calabrese is the world’s greatest horror punk band and they’re coming to get you. Jimmy, Davey & Bobby, three tremendous talents born to the same name, Calabrese. Initially inspired by legendary bands in their freshman and sophomore efforts ("13 HALLOWEENS" and "THE TRAVELING VAMPIRE SHOW" respectively), the terrifying trio branch out into new territory on their new CD, “THEY CALL US DEATH". Calabrese’s new sound rips your head off and leaves you begging for more. With their film debut in THE GRAVES, upcoming comic book and other nefarious plans afoot, Calabrese is poised to take over the world. You’ll be glad they did." – Brian Pulido Writer / Creator / Director - LADY DEATH. EVIL ERNIE, and THE GRAVES

Formed in 2003 the brothers CALABRESE have quickly made their mark on the world -- bite marks to be exact. "We are a very lucky band, our fans are amazing and I think selling our souls has really paid off." -Jimmy Calabrese. Fueled by the cult success of "13 HALLOWEENS" and "THE TRAVELING VAMPIRE SHOW" CALABRESE plans to unleash Hell in 2010.

Not only has CALABRESE finished recording their third CD "THEY CALL US DEATH," for a 2010 release (with artwork from Eric "The Goon" Powell), they have also teamed up with MODERN MYTHOLOGY PRESS for a CALABRESE COMIC BOOK. In addition, CALABRESE will be making their film debut staring in THE GRAVES during the AFTER DARK HORROR FEST 4.

The boys sat with Ladyaslan and talked of their music, movie, and comic book and of course our plight of Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Calabrese...
Jimmy – 'Cause it’s been years since I’ve heard their music and I still can’t get that “Hungry Like the Wolf” song out of my head!

Bobby -- One word - YES!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about the band....who are you? What kind of music would you consider your band to play? How long have you been playing?

Calabrese...
Bobby -- We are Calabrese, and we play horror rock and roll! I'm Bobby, and I play guitar, and the other guy answering questions is Jimmy, and he rocks the bass. We've been doing it for around seven years and it's been a blast. My advice: quit your job and start a band!

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness in the past 30 yrs?

Calabrese...
Jimmy – They came on the scene during the rise of MTV and their look and music was a perfect match. They had great videos and pushed the boundaries on how a video production values.

Bobby -- The fact that they can still pump out hit after hit says a lot. They're true rock and roll machines!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did Calabrese get involved with After Dark Horrorfest 4 and the movie The Graves? What was the experience like?

Calabrese...
Bobby -- It was great! We pretty much lucked out by being in Brian Pulido's, "The Graves," which made it to the After Dark Horrorfest series. It was pretty cool seeing a movie we made an appearance in on store shelves!
Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favourite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Calabrese...
Jimmy – Our older sister would blast these songs all day long in her room and the songs that I remember are Rio, Notorious, Girls On Film, and Hungry Like The Wolf.

Bobby -- The whole Seven and the Ragged Tiger album!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to support such acts as The Misfits & 45-Grave ( one of Ladyaslan's #1 picks )? What did the band learn from touring with these bands?

Calabrese...
Bobby -- Keep touring, have fun and never quit! You got to be in it to win it.

Jimmy – To be ourselves and follow our own path.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Calabrese...
Jimmy – I would say Girls On Film, cause that reminds me an AFI song for some reason!

Bobby -- I'd say "Girls on Film," too, 'cause if we got to remake the video...it would be this non-teenage boy's dream come true! Ha!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did the band get involved with the making of their comic book by Modern Mythology Press? What is the comic about? Is it out yet? Where can a fan purchase it?

Calabrese...
Jimmy – A comic book is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, so when Modern Mythology Press made us an offer we jumped at the chance. The comic is about the band in the Calabrese Universe where we fight monsters. How can you not like that? We have a release date of October so stay tuned. We are looking for distribution into comic book shops but it will definitely be sold online!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was the genesis behind the video "Voices of the Dead"?

Calabrese...
Jimmy - We met up with the Director Brian Pulido and bounced ideas back and forth and the next thing you know we have a kick ass video.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How do you feel about Calabrese products being available at Hot Topic? Are products in-store or on-line only?

Calabrese...
Jimmy – Our stuff has been available both in-store and on-line at Hot Topic, and it’s been great to know we’ve infiltrated the altar of consumerism – the American mall!

Bobby -- Selling our stuff online as well as various stores across the world is an awesome thing! Any and all ways a person can hear our music is killer. Next stop...strip malls in space!

Interview with Lady Parasyte

Lady Parasyte is an electro-rock trio consisting of vocalist/lyricist Kimberly K., Mark Black (guitars/programming) and additional vocalist Miss Angela. Together they have created a chaotic but aggressively catchy mixture of electronic driven sounds mixed with high energy guitars topped with vocals ranging from soothingly melodic to blisteringly hard-hitting. Lady Parasyte combines their influences and styles to create an infectious yet intense sound that you cannot get out of your head.

Over the past few years vocalist Kimberly K. has collaborated with such artists as Die Warzau and techno legend DJ T-1000(Alan D. Oldham) contributing vocals to both acts releases, as well as having tracks appear on compilations for Ominous Passions Clothing and Creative Violence Records. Previous members include programmer birdFEEDER(Essenza) and guitarist Inkydust who helped to bring to life the debut electro-industrial EP,"Sirens" featuring the tracks Sirens, Salvage and Are You Dead yet?

Currently, the band is spending much of their time writing and recording the full length electro-rock romp "Abandoned Places" to be released on MachineKUNT Records. Here is the interview with the lovely ladies and gentleman of Lady Parasyte:

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Sure. They have so many songs that are sort of preserved in people's minds. Even if someone thinks they don’t know a Duran Duran song all you got to do is sing one of their tunes and people are like, “Oh yeah, I know that song!”

Mark B: Duran Duran have spanned 4 decades, sold record numbers of albums, and spawned countless copy cat bands as well as influenced fashion, video and music. Yes, Duran Duran should definitely be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Miss Angela: I do agree that they should be included in the RNR hall of fame! They’re a band who, like Mark said, has influenced not only fashion but music itself. They have stood the test of time, and they deserve to be recognized for that.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us...what and who is Lady Parasyte?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Well, Lady Parasyte is three people and basically our music could be described as a mix of electro, rock and maybe a dash of pop. I handle lead vocals and lyrics. The vocals are sort of a combination of melodic and aggressive styles.

Mark B: Lady Parasyte combines our common interests in music and culture. We all bring something to the mix. I handle instruments and music production and then hand it over to the girls to add the vocals.

Miss Angela: We are a group of people who are making an idea into great, fun music we hope others will enjoy! At this time I’m not able to contribute to the writing process, so it’s mainly Kim and Mark doing all the hard work!

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness over the past 30 yrs?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: They really have influenced all those things in such a smooth way. Just their overall style and sound. They were really great storytellers in both music and video.

Mark B: First off, Duran Duran was more than just a band; they were a major innovator in the fields of video production. Their videos in the early to mid 80’s pioneered many of the techniques that are used in movie and video production today.

Miss Angela: Definitely an innovator of music video styles. Also, their attitudes and styles are meshed into all things 80’s. I don’t know where the 80’s would stand without Duran Duran.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Since the EP Sirens, how have you all grown as a band and musicians?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Well, the bands lineup has changed. We are now a trio with Mark joining us and the music has a less industrial more rock feel to it. Vocally I've been trying to do different things than what I did on Sirens. I also approach lyrics with a different frame of mind. Some of the songs on the Sirens EP were written such a long time ago that my perspective on things has changed quite a bit.

Mark B: Different production techniques and musical tastes will yield different results. I was not a part of the band when the Sirens EP was recorded, so I really can’t comment on changes. Once we formed the new line up, we moved in the direction that seemed natural at the time.

Miss Angela: I think both Kim and I have matured a bit with our vocal style. More confidence and more attitude!

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favourite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Probably “Ordinary World”. I realize that wouldn't be most people’s choice because they did so much work before that track but it's got such a great melody and the vocals are just fantastic. Every time it comes on I just have to stop and listen to it.

Mark B: Would definitely be the raw, sexually charged, music in their earlier days. My favorite songs would be “Planet Earth” and “Is there something I should know”. Favorite videos would be “Girls on Film” and “The Chauffeur”. If you’re a dude and you’ve seen the director’s cut of these videos, you’ll know why I wanted to be a member of Duran Duran in the early to mid eighties. Wow!

Miss Angela: I love “Girls on Film”, Is There Something I Should Know”, “Notorious” and of course “Hungry like the Wolf”, BUT Girls on Film and “Rio” are my fave videos.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Who is the real Kimberly Koppen, what is your life mantra?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: That’s a tough one. I guess I would have to say something I repeatedly have to tell myself is “Keep it together”. I tend to worry and over analyze things a lot and that can cause some pretty stressful days. So my goal is often to try and not let certain things overpower my thoughts because if I do then I’m just missing out on the good parts of life. I would describe myself as neurotic and goofy. I’ve been told by a few people that I seem to be pretty together but if they only knew all the thoughts that race through my head on a daily basis, they wouldn’t think so. Generally though, I like to be silly. I love funny stuff. I’m a fan of horror too but you got to make time for laughs. I definitely spend a lot of time geeking out over Joss Whedon’s stuff because his blend of comedy and horror really has all I need to be entertained and can usually pull me out of a crappy mood.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Who is the real Mark B, what is your life mantra?

Lady Parasyte...
Mark B: Music, although being a very important aspect of my life, is just one part of who I am but it is an outlet to express whatever outside forces are affecting my life. I don’t have a formula or code that I live by, but (like Kim) I am also a huge fan of horror. I’m also a father and long time martial arts practitioner.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Who is the real Miss Angela, what is your life mantra?

Lady Parasyte...
Miss Angela: I tend to be more of an old-school Goth type. I keep quiet and to myself around strangers but there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for a friend, cuz they are my family. My husband tells me I expect too much from people. Is that a bad thing? But I am a big believer in what goes around comes around, so I always try to be the best I can be. I may not always succeed in doing that, but that makes me try harder next time.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Well, “Ordinary World” is definitely up there. Although, maybe we should cover “Hungry like the Wolf” and try to get on a Twilight soundtrack. Commence eye rolling.

Mark B: Kim and Angela might feel strange belting out “Wild Boys”, so I’ll have to pick “Planet Earth”

Miss Angela: I would totally do “Wild Boys”!! But I’m sorry, I have to go with “Hungry” it’s such a classic!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to work with Die Warzau?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: I can thank MySpace for that hook up. Jim Marcus (of the band) contacted me on there and basically asked if I wanted to drop by their studio sometime and try out some vocals on some of their tracks. So I went down there and laid down some screams. Everybody was really laid back and easy to be around. I believe they are releasing that record soon.

Mark B: Wasn’t with the band at the time, so can’t comment on that.

Miss Angela: This was something Kim did solo, so something I can’t comment on as well.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you end up with the opening gig for Funker Vogt?

Lady Parasyte...

Kim K: A local promoter by the name of Apathademon contacted me. He asked me if I wanted to be part of a show he was putting together called The Awakening. We had never played a show before and frankly I didn't officially have a live band at the time. Back then it was me and previous member birdFEEDER. So we got Alan Oldham to DJ, Miss Angela on backup vocals and our guitarist and booked the show. Apathademon was very hush hush about who the main act would be so I didn't even know it was Funker Vogt till after I already agreed to the gig.

Mark B: This was before my tenure.

Miss Angela: Luck! Ha-ha! It just kind-of happened, and I’m honored we got the chance to do that as our first gig.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What does it mean to you to be an artist / musician?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: It's hard for me to walk around calling myself an artist. I just like making music and generally being creative but I don't live any kind of super intense artsy lifestyle or anything.

Mark B: It means always exploring new ideas and recording techniques.

Miss Angela: I’ve always been a creative person but always felt uncomfortable calling myself any kind of “artist”. I guess it’s just all about self expression, and getting all those little bits out of your head in a way that inspires someone else.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What can the fans expect from the new album "Abandoned Places"?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Definitely more rock. This is also the first release where Miss Angela is featured as recorded band member. Up until this record she only performed with us live. I think having a second vocalist adds some good texture to the album. I had also intended for lyrics to be a bit more lighthearted on this record however many of the tracks ended up having a really heavy meaning to them. I guess you can't have a record called "Abandoned Places" and have it be too happy. The music is definitely more upbeat than Sirens though.

Mark B: More of a electro rock sound

Miss Angela: Much dancier, more feel-good stuff. It makes you want to shake your booty. Mark’s music style is great, and I really love the direction the new album took with him on board.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did Lady Parasyte get involved with MachineKUNT Records?

Lady Parasyte...
Kim K: Another MySpace connection! Rachel Haywire (the founder) contacted me and initially she just wanted to carry the Sirens EP in her store however eventually she expressed interest in releasing our next record. So now a year later “Abandoned Places” is about to be released and we really hope people will dig it.

Mark B: Kim spearheaded that effort. She’s quite the deal maker.

Miss Angela: Yup, that was all Kim finding us somewhere to go.

* (Ladyaslan,DDTTRH) Comment Duran Duran a influencé votre musique?

Interview with Jeremiah Saint

Jeremiah Saint is Industrial~Death Rock~Dark Wave~Horror Music~ When not writing or performing for his solo project he is often found in these bands REGENERATOR - Live Synths / Bass Guitars / Drum Mechanisms Phase Theory - Live Lead Synths / Bass Hooks / Back up Vox

He delves into the vegan world, he loves the living "creatures" of this world more than that of the human race. Art is his extance, whether it is through Music, Writing, Visual, or any other media aspect or emotion. He is social, he is out going, he dislikes the sun, and he rather enjoys Science (fiction and FACT). Jeremiah is a true artist he does it all from playing Synths, Bass, Back Up Vox and some Production.

It had been reported that is Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson created a “being” that being would be Jeremiah Saint…what more can I say~ here is the interview with our darkling:

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserves to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Jeremiah Saint: Yes, very much so. I am surprised that they are not in it already. They are a band that has inspired and touched many and not just with the music that has been written but the style they wore and what they stood for.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: You said that: "art is my extance" what did you mean by that self-quote?

Jeremiah Saint: Without art and my many different ways of producing it I do not think, or believe that I would still be alive. My passions are my bane and this bane keeps me breathing.

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness?

Jeremiah Saint: Music: I would say not to be offensive but this was the first (pop) boy band but in a better way far superior then what we have seen in the past few years. Their songs have touched millions in many different ways and have been heard and cherished by many though many different avenues. Their androgynous fashion pleased the eyes of many boy and girls and not just in the 80's but still today. As they have progressed with experience and age so has their music and look now polished and distinguished but still very androgynous. I know for myself they have inspired a bit of how I wear certain things and of course my music (but that is a given).

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about Regenerator...

Jeremiah Saint: Regenerator! Well this is a long but favorite story of mine to tell. Regenerator has graced the underground Electronic / Industrial scene for close to twenty years, I am the newest member. I joined the band in August 2007 after my first (trial) performance at Defcon15 (hacker convention). I had met them a month prior at a bookstore local to my residence, I had recognized them and went to speak to them about B-Horror movies and POW instant connection (I had been a fan) REGENERATOR: Wrex Mach (Production, Lyrics, Writing, Lead Male Vocals, Live Synths/Keys - Patrice Synthica Lead Female Vocals, Synths/Keys, Drum Pads and myself Jeremiah Saint Synths/Keys/Samples, Bass Guitars and sometimes Male backup vocals. We are all Vegetarians who share the same views on the world. Love is the ruler of all and without love nothing would exist. With that said a lot of our songs are religious, political(worldly), and quite lovely, though we do have a lot of great songs dealing with lusty things! As of today we have over nine full length albums with many singles, rarities and compilations out!

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favourite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Jeremiah Saint: Oh wow that one is tough, I really enjoy Hungry like a wolf and No Ordinary world though Wild Boys is always a fun song.. As I am writing this I am thinking of so many more they have such a great catalogue that is really difficult to choose just one. I’d say I really like View to Kill Video (love the song) and the original Notorious (GREAT BASS LINE)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is Phase Theory and how are you involved?

Jeremiah Saint: Phase Theory is more of a down beat (Depeche mode style) Project that I am lucky to be involved in, Phase Theory: Kirk Gram, Fritzi, Jonathan Kramm and myself. Its idea was to bring different artists together to create one sound. In this band I am involved in: Production / Writing / Lyrics / Bass Guitars / Synths /and any other instrument a song calls for me to play. We have 2 singles and one album out as of today. We are like a dark love song torn to pieces.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Jeremiah Saint: I would most likely do A View to A Kill or No ordinary world. For Hunger Regenerator was going to cover hunger like the wolf, well we did but we are not longer adding it to the album.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Who is Jeremiah Saint....what makes you tick?

Jeremiah Saint: That is a great question, I would say the way the world is today makes me want to change things... And I do so with the emotions I pour into my music and my heART works.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What made you want to help with our effort of Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? What can you bring to the table?

Jeremiah Saint: I don't how I would not want to help, I am a great marketer and promoter and such. Everything I am today in the public eye I did myself. Why would I not want to help a band get such great recognition for the wonderful music and things they have done over the years, they surly inspired me. hmm Whatever you need me to do.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about the new Regenerator album, Hunger.

Jeremiah Saint: Hunger explores many different hungers in the world, each song is very different yet the same. A hunger for Lust, Love, power corruption, belief, gluttony and actual hunger. Hunger is part of the Triple Album Box that will be released in a few years. The first album on this was Disease followed by Hunger and then to be finished by Religion. Our Live shows are often backed up by graphic videos of just how we treat the would (we as a group of humans not individuals), though we so have some pretty sexy videos as well.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What inspired the song "One Desire"?

Jeremiah Saint: The lady who was the love of my life and my life for 6 years. After the separation I broke down and basically wrote my future album "Antiquated" which this song appears on. One Desire: First verse - About the girl who stole my heart / Chorus - my Break down to the situation and seeing it will never heal / Second Verse - What I've done to myself within the timeline of the separation and regretting and knowing it’s too late to say the things I should have. It's a song about loving someone so much and losing them and literally not knowing what to do anymore, taking yourself to extremes with an excess of drugs, liquor and so many other vices then hitting bottom and realizing just what the hell have I become?

Interview with Fred McNeil

Fred McNeill is a Writer…Poet…Activist…and all around an interesting man with so many passions and an incredible life story…where can I begin? I have been friends with Fred for many years now and everyday it’s a true blessing to read Fred’s blogs. He is a song writer…he is the voice for those who have none. He is Love and Light~ he has seen pain~he has been pain~ he is the wise man who sits in the tree waiting for someone to ask a question….Fred McNeill is The Third Secret Foundation.

Fred is like a cross between Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable and Gavin Friday’s Lypton Village. Fred loves fighting for and finding justice. He loves Scotland-Ireland-Cefalu...Some of his poems are considered controversial & he doesn't’t plan a poem/lyrics he only writes what's comes from his heart and he writes about life in general; the highs and the lows, the happiness and the sorrow…LIFE~

Fred was nice enough to sit and chat with Ladyaslan about his writings and his opinions of the Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame campaign~here is the interview~

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Fred McNeill: Ye for sure there contribution to the music business has played a big part in many Folk’s lives’ influencing many bands up & down the country

LadyaslanDDTTRH: So please share with the readers what the "Third Secret Foundation" is.

Fred McNeill: I’m trying to create music-poetry-art all together as a unit under one flag Get the teenagers involved bringing together music stars & working class kids to work

Side by side taking them off the streets away from the drug gun knife culture offer

Them something creative whether it be music art poetry dance, everyone has something

To say once you find the structure in your writing it can open a few doors on social net

Working sites meeting & chatting to all types of creative minds & that as a whole hopefully we can keep

Them on a positive thinking mood

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran song and video?

Fred McNeill: I think I’d say Girls On Film it was a good catchy wee song and a pretty damn good video

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about your first book "Stealth Appollonia"? How did you come up with such a surreal title?

Fred McNeill: It’s weird really because I’m asked this a lot it’s easier to create than explain the title ‘the title translated means ‘secret beauty

I seen the name and was instantly attracted to it & I thought it was such a kool name

For a beauty Queen ‘the title really does attract the eye to many passing by MySpace page

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions do you feel Duran Duran has made to the world of music and fashion in the past 30 yrs?

Fred McNeill: Well they have brought much joy to millions of adoring fans and left a legacy which will remain

For years most likely forever ‘and have set fashion trends probably in many countries all across the globe .

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Your second book " Glenapp Road "...tell us a little about the genesis of this book and journey?

Fred McNeill: This is the street I was raised for most of my life with many families still in this area

And friends also many a character is this street and many a wild fucking party we had

Around those streets, in our town the biggest star to hail from it was Gerry Rafferty from the band "Steeler" wheels most known for songs like baker street & stuck in the middle they had an album named after his former area called Ferguslie Park ‘so I thought if I call

Mines Glenapp Road it’s a hidden tribute to Gerry Raffery & Joe Egan from Steeler wheels

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What Duran Duran song would you like to see re-released and re-made by the band; video and all?

Fred McNeill: I enjoyed Wild Boys that was like Duran Duran sounding pretty punkish I thought

So ye Wild Boys I’d say…

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us a little about your poem "Silent Tear For Justice" ( about lifer Kevin O'Neill ) who is he and what happened to him?

Fred McNeill: Kevin & I went through high school together & if am honest we were both pretty wild

Just pranking about in school anything for a laugh ‘Kevin is first to admit he was never an angel, he left Scotland to go to London to seek his fortune where they say gold lies on the pavements all he got was sorrow and despair. Kevin was convicted of murder in 1987 on a basis of a confession taken under duress without a lawyer present which later he withdrew & the two co-accused turning Queens evidence blaming Kevin although there was no forensic evidence found on

Any of Kevin’s clothing & he was sentenced to life imprisonment which he now enters his 25 the year behind bars an innocent man

LadyaslanDDTTRH: "Free Palestine"-what provoked you to write this epic piece?

Fred McNeill: F@#$ don’t get me started on those murdering bastards the US/Brit/Israel war mongrels

What they’re doing to Palestine is war crimes ‘a war is a war when both countries are armed to the teeth not tanks against stone flinging’they done the same in Ireland and the Irish nation fought back and are still fighting to have their country united

LadyaslanDDTTRH: "Edward Earl Johnson" is another powerful political piece of work-how did this person affect you to the point of penning a prose in his honour?

Fred McNeill: Deeply affected by this case its shocking and disturbing beyond belief and we all know about the south in the US if your black they don’t give a fuck, kill him anyway ‘to think this young man was innocent and executed there’s no words to describe the pain his loved ones must have suffered

Even the victim says it wasn’t him, what a cruel sick world we live they police should be took to the highest courts and charges brought against them

LadyaslanDDTTRH: If you could have a sit down with any member of Duran Duran who would it be and what would be topic of discussion?

Fred McNeill: It would have to be John Taylor and I’d ask him what’s it like being in the Neurotic Outsiders with former Sex Pistol Steve Jones and has really bedded all those hot babes ha ha

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you come to write a song and work with the band Mr. Mice Crap & the Cat Pee? Who are they and what kind of music do they play?

Fred McNeill: Mr.Crappy (Marc) has being very supportive of my writing since we first met on MySpace

Well he calls his music Chinese pop/surf mice Crap music he’s a top bloke & the song pillow fights we co-wrote together I’m really proud of it and honored Marc gave me that chance and had faith in my writing

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Talk to us about the awareness campaign of "Nigerian Witches"? Whom did you collaborate with to spread the message of the atrocities these children have endured? What was it like to work with poets with such diverse writing patterns? How far have we come today with this effort?

Fred McNeill: Well collaborated with US poet/model Audrey Michelle who provided the voice over

And music by Dutch artist Mysteriality and a few other poets like you ( Ladyaslan ) got involved

Louise Brand from Scotland Naomi Oliver from New York and US poet bass player for Wicked Daisey Salja Daiseve ‘ each artist was excellent and more than willing to get involved in the charity in England stepping stone Nigeria send me updates like I send them updates if anyone writes any new poems on this subject ‘I think how little the part I played to raise awareness I opened up a few eyes many folk would never have know about the Nigerian Witches otherwise~

Interview with tenek

Pulsating…neon beats…dark wave…unstoppable electronic groove…that is tenek~

tenek are Geoff Pinckney and Pete Steer from Sussex, UK. Debut album 'Stateless' out now at toffeetones.com with new single 'Blinded By You' and album 'On The Wire' released 5th July~

The debut album 'Stateless' from Brighton based electronica duo tenek was released on Friday 20th March 2009 by the Toffeetones label. The album is currently available on from the Toffeetones website at: http://www.toffeetones.com/

The new single 'Blinded By You' is officially released on Monday 5th July but is already available on most major download stores such as iTunes and Amazon etc. The link on the Toffeetones shop for the single is now also 'live' so you can purchase the download (cheapest price!) from there as well as the CD single which is an absolute bargain at £2.99 plus 99p for worldwide postage and packing.

Pete Steer & Geoff Pickney recently chatted with Ladyaslan about the tenek album, B side releases and Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here is what they had to say~

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

tenek: Absolutely! They've been around for about 30 years and have contributed to the world wide music scene in a big way. The innovative use of video in the early part of their career was particularly ground breaking.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you come up with the name tenek? What does it mean?

tenek: The name was inspired by the outro vocal effect of a particular Heaven 17 track - 'Fascist Groove Thang'. We wanted a name that was non specific and concise. We've since found out that 'Tenek' is an indigenous tribe from Mexico and a planet in Star Wars as found on Wookieepedia! Hence why we like to spell it with a lower case’t’ :)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Has Duran Duran inspired you and your music? In which areas have they influenced you both?

tenek: Yes, by the combination of guitars, synthesizers and vocal harmonies, which is an important part of the tenek sound?

LadyaslanDDTTRH: You once said tenek is anger, pop, frustration, electronics, bewilderment, and sheer determination, what made you come to that conclusion as a band?

tenek: They were not our words to be honest! But yes we identify with all those elements, which when fused together adds up to tenek :)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran song and video?

tenek: Both our favourite song is 'Ordinary World'. The song is a timeless classic and led to their resurgence in the 90's.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us the genesis of the song Blinded By You and why was Synchronise left off the next album?

tenek: We were aiming for something danceable and commercial for the new album. It basically grew from the bass line groove; everything else was built around that. When we hit on the 'Heartbeat' hook we knew we were onto something! Synchronise was never intended for the album and was written specifically as an additional track for the single.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions do you feel Duran Duran has made to the world of music and fashion?

tenek: As we said before, Duran Duran where pioneers of the MTV video revolution in the early 80's. Musically they were masters of the 'pop song' creating some of the very best of that era.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What was it like to have tenek songs remixed by Shaun Brooks who also worked with Gary Numan and Trent Reznor?

tenek: Shaun Brooks is the owner of the label Toffeetones and we've been working with him since signing to them in 2008. He understands exactly what tenek are about and is therefore the best person, we feel, to remix our songs.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What Duran Duran song would you like to remake if you could remake one?

tenek: Pete: 'Careless Memories'. Geoff: 'My Own Way'.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is the "one" thing fans should know about tenek?

tenek: We're writing the music that we always wanted to and are being true to ourselves as a band. We're not trying to appeal to any specific trend or market; we just do what we do.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Can you tell us more about the new album “On the Wire?”

tenek: We feel that, 'On the Wire' is a step up for us as songwriters in comparison to our previous album, 'Stateless'. We're confident that we've written the best material that we possibly could within the last 18 months. We look forward to seeing how it is received, with the same excitement and apprehension that we're sure all musicians go through when completing an album!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Will there be a video to accompany the first single "Blinded by You"

tenek: Some bands make the mistake of spending a lot of money on video's only to see them end up on YouTube with no real exposure. If the song's not there no video in the world is going to make it more interesting. We want to do videos in the future but right now at this stage of our career we're putting all our resources into touring and promoting our music at street level. Face to face with the fans. We feel a song like Blinded By You communicates directly to listeners because it's vibey and infectious and music is an audio medium first and foremost.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us a little about the show on 21 August at The Albert in Brighton

tenek: It's basically a chance to showcase most of the songs from the new album in an intimate venue that we're familiar with. Those who are attending will get the chance to buy a copy of the album 2 weeks before its official release. Although we only have a limited amount available on the night.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How has the reception been to the new album when playing it live?

tenek: On the recent German tour with De/Vision we found that our newer material seemed to be better received, this was very encouraging for us. 'Blinded By You' was particularly popular which vindicated the decision to release it as the first single from the album.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What has been your craziest fan moment?

tenek: We've been given vegan muffins, home baked especially for us in Bochum - does that count?!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Would tenek ever tour the United States?

tenek: Yes, we are particularly keen to play in the US at some point and we are working towards this becoming a reality.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Your new album On the Wire...was it a collaboration on the writing?

tenek: All tenek music and lyrics are co-written by both of us. We enjoy the creative spark from working in the studio together. The most exciting part being when a track starts to take shape into something special.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Your fans are going to be reading this and hearing this...what do you want to tell them?

tenek: We really appreciate your support and we hope you will continue to join us on this exciting journey.

Interview with D'Edwin

Instrumentals: D’Edwin, Composition: D’Edwin, Vocals: D’Edwin, Production: D'Edwin, Graphics: D'Edwin…he can do it all~ “If You Like Indie-Alternative, with a Semi-Retro Sound & Diary-Style Lyrics you will certainly be riveted by D'Edwin.”

D'Edwin offers you a dynamic, thought provoking, lyrical-diary style arrangement which will compel you to get up and dance whilst grasping the deep emotions of your conscience.

D'Edwin started writing and producing music in January of 2007, just six months after a nearly fatal life changing event. This experience was instrumental in convincing him to abandon all else for his creative birthright. Within one year of re-grasping the arts, D'Edwin's work spawned 2 albums (first EP in June of 2007 and then an LP in June of 2008). His life experiences combined his interests in retro-indie pop, formed his unique lyrical persona and developed a flexible balance between deep introspective lyrics and energetic retro-alternative rock instrumentals.

D’Edwin is a long time friend of mine and he was nice enough to sit and chat with me about his music and his thoughts on Duran Duran…

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

D'Edwin: Well, certainly a ten times more than Bruce Springsteen!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you get involved with CD Baby? Who are they and what do they provide?

D'Edwin CD is the leading music distributing organization for indie-artists around the net. When I decided to dive head first into music sales in 2007, it became obvious that CD Baby was the shortest path between two points.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Has Duran Duran inspired you and your music? In which areas have they influenced you?

D'Edwin: To start off, Duran Duran has that Euro-music look and feel I have grown to notice. I was first introduced to their music in the late 80’s and I liked their creativity the most. Most music that has hit the US pop-charts (since the mid to late 90’s) has almost completely abandoned creativity. I find creativity to be a major key influencing my music today.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What force pulled you into the music world? What do you feel you have to offer as a musician?

D'Edwin: Passion. I, at one point having lost passion for life in general, decided one day to do something spectacular. In music, I found the answer. As a musician, I tried (emphasis on the word ‘tried’) to offer creativity, reality, and a viable alternative to the failed grunge-pop of the past two decades.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran song and video?
D'Edwin: “Rio” (face it, it’s hot!)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Your album-"My Friend's Left Me For Dead" what is the story behind the title?

D'Edwin: Well, when my close friends got older (notice I didn’t say ‘grew up’) they decided to move on to bigger and better things (things other than loyal friendships) and thus I was left digging my own grave.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What contributions do you feel Duran Duran has made to the world of music and fashion in the past 30 yrs?

D'Edwin: Well to start, I’d say a starkly hewn image of brightly colored cotton leisure-suits and a passion for the playboy jet-set lifestyle. They also helped initiate an explosion of creative 80’s sound and fashion that defined the taste of an era.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What do you mean by "Intelligent Rock" when you describe your music?

D'Edwin: It’s almost as if to say, I actually put thought into my lyrics (imagine that). I share the inner most common struggles of my life as if to write my own diary, publishing it to the world. Perhaps others can identify with such topics as depression, betrayal, and even love abandonment among other things (you think?)

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What Duran Duran song would you like to remake if you could remake one?

D'Edwin: Personally, I have been known to play an unplugged version of ‘Save a Prayer’ (although pathetically) I hack the guitar parts to death.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Are you a studio artist or do you prefer to play live shows?

D'Edwin: I am more of a studio artist, yet I have performed in plenty of gigs. I suppose if I could ever find worthy band members (among other hang-ups) I would do more on the performing. However, life isn’t working with me at the moment.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you have any plans to make a video to any of your songs?

D'Edwin: I am planning to do a video or two. I would like to do a cover of Please, Please, Please (by you know who). I will choose one of my songs, but which, I haven’t decided. I am accepting votes though, (if anyone wants to email me) www.myspace.com/actionrezultsrecords . Cheers!

Interview with Twitchcraft

Twitchcraft is the one man project of alexP, an electronic musician from the Niagara Region who has years of production under his belt. Utilizing vintage hardware synthesizers drum machines and samplers, he builds up tapestries that place raw emotion and feeling into a mix of rhythm and attitude, creating music that bestows an evocative and sexy experience, with a completely danceable vibe. Drawing inspiration from nature, people and places around him, and the concept of life, death, and sometimes the center of the two fates, alexP's music has a haunting, organic presence that captivates the listener to focus harder and relate some of the music and lyrics back to their own past and present experiences, all the while, remaining honest about his own ideas of what constitute things such as lust, jealousy, death, life, and the perpetual mind games we play on those around us within our daily lives.

alexP sat down and chatted with Ladyaslan about how Twitchcraft came too be and his thoughts on Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame~

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Twitchcraft: - For all of the contributions they have made, not just too pop music, but for helping to make the modern day synthesizer much more approachable within that form of music, they definitely deserve it. They were one of the first stadium bands that weren’t progressive rock, to utilize synths and sampling technology in most if not all of their songs. So yes, they definitely deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you come up with the name Twitchcraft?

Twitchcraft: To be completely honest, I don’t remember. Back in the early days of the band, there were 4 of us, and we all were sitting around deciding what to call ourselves. We had done some jams, and come up with some fantastic ideas, and we wanted something that just stuck in people’s heads. I know I’m not the one that came up with it, but someone did, and it just clicked.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite Duran Duran video and song?

Twitchcraft: Super tough. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Ordinary World. I love the laid back vibe, but yet still emotional energy of that track. The Chorus still gives me goose bumps! I’m a huge sucker for a great melody, regardless of gear used, and that chorus is just mind-blowing. As for videos, I love the video for View to A Kill. How can you not love anything with James Bond in it!!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is the (paranormal) force behind forming Twitchcraft?

Twitchcraft: - Well living and working in the Niagara Region, which is a very active part of the world, I’m sure has quite an influence on me. Being right in the middle of the War of 1812, the Underground Railroad, and all that history is just amazing. The studio is in a building that’s from 1825 and is pretty haunted, which is quite a lot of fun (though not so much when you’re trying to get work done, and things keep making you jump).I’ve always been fascinated with that stuff, and for me to be able to work in that sort of setting, is something I’m super grateful for. A friend and I are really thinking about getting some equipment, and trying our hand at ghost hunting.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Had Duran Duran inspired any of the band members and if so what area of your music did they inspire?

Twitchcraft: Chris the vocalist was hugely inspired by them. I know he really enjoyed the energy of the music, combined with the vibe of Simons Vocals. I really enjoyed Nick Rhodes synth work, and of course, that’s what really drove me to like them. My mum got me into all that stuff as a kid. I remember being probably 9 or 10 listening to Yaz, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell and all that. She’s really the one I thank for getting me into the music I love.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Please explain in short what are "Twitch-heads" and do we want to become one? :)

Twitchcraft: Twitchheads are simply fans of Twitchcraft. They are my extended family in a way. They’re the ones that come to all the shows, and are in the front jumping around like maniacs. Their super fun to hang out with before, during, and after the show. Now that the band is just me, It’s a lot of fun to be one guy on stage surrounded with synths. People definitely double take that. It's a good way to convert people to the project. I’ve spoken with people before shows, and them asking if I just push a button and sing, and then they see me working like a mad man on stage, making sure everything stays synced, playing parts, tweaking sounds, and still doing vocals, and after the show they're just.... Wow, that’s a lot more work than I thought It was going to be. And then those people become Twitchheads! :)

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness?

Twitchcraft: It got us all wearing leather jackets :) In all seriousness though, they brought a really nice fusion of synth pop, and gave it a much warmer organic presence. They were definitely the first band that did that.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Is there any particular song that raises a lot of emotion or passion in you?

Twitchcraft: If you’re talking my music, it would have to be my first new song entitled The Curse. It’s about falling in love with someone who doesn’t love you back. If we’re talking anything in general, the song It Couldn’t Happen Here by the Pet Shop Boys is a very emotional one for me. As for passion, any song is someone’s passion, and I find that very inspiring. That’s why I’m very open minded with my music. I may not like something, but I would never say it sucks or that sort of thing, simply because someone put their heart and soul into it. Passion and emotion are definitely two of the most inspirational elements of my music.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Twitchcraft: Ordinary World. Or Hungry Like The Wolf!!!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is the story behind Lovely Murder (a Ladyaslan favorite)?

Twitchcraft: Chris had this idea about a girl plagued by inner turmoil, and he was the big brother trying to get her through it. I think that was the vibe for it, as it was so long ago. Musically, I had this beat all built up using one of the samplers, and it just had this awesome groove to it. I wanted it to be dancy, but yet still slow-ish. So I threw this very dark sounding choir behind it, and it started to sound really Depeche Mode-ish. I built up a bass line and then just took it from there. After it had been sequenced and recorded, we had a guitarist come in, and throw down those fantastic riffs that I feel really bring the track up to another level. Then Chris took his vocals and fit them in over the track and we ended up with it!

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What is your favorite instrument or device to work with?

Twitchcraft: I have so many!! If I had to pick one, I would have to say the Ensoniq Mirage sampler. It’s old, 8 bit, and just gives everything that goes into it a ton of character. On the new album I used that a lot with the old Roland TR 909 drum machine, and the Korg MS10. Those 3 machines I think are really the backbone of the new stuff.

Anything you want to share with the fans? First off, thanks to everyone for everything! It’s been a great road so far! Watch for the new album soon, and shows in your area. The USA is a bitch to get into for shows, but if enough people are into it, drop me an email or something, and I can see what I can swing.
Keep doing what you’re doing. Stay open minded. Love life. alexP

Interview with Neongrau

Neongrau was inspired by the early works of electronic music pioneers such as The Normal, Fad Gadget, Gary Numan, Soft Cell… Neongrau delivers the ideal soundtrack for urban catwalks and cult b-movies. With a respectful nod to the past and a wary eye on the future, Neongrau sways to an ice cool, minority groove. While in the cut-up tradition of William Burroughs and in line with the nightmarish visions of David Cronenberg’s Videodrome – both, music and lyrics are the result of a dangerous flirtation with technology.

Oliver Gerling sat down with Ladyaslan of DDTTRH and chatted about music and the campaign DDTTRH~

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think Duran Duran deserve to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why?

Neongrau: Why not? And that is definitely all I can say. To be true, I don’t mind this subject very much, do they (Duran Duran) actually?

LadyaslanDDTTRH: How did you come up with the name Neongrau? What does it mean?

Neongrau: Just the fact that every band resp. project needs a name that -at best- fits the music (style- / genre-wise). NEONGRAU is a non-existing colour I’ve invented.

NEONGRAU = engl. Version NEON GREY: a bright, glary grey. OK, this might be scientifically wrong but this name fits me and my sound quite well. Also, it is contradictory the way I am, most of the time.

Ladyaslan DDTRH: What contributions and influences do you feel Duran Duran contributed to the world of music and fashion and social awareness?

Neongrau: hmm…maybe…wear cherry lips, and thin leather ties while sailing by yachts across the Caribbean sea…?…!…

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about Zero Magazine and the Top 20 Album Chart...what was it like to have the number #4 album in Germany?

Neongrau: The No.4 album position was in Sweden (as far as I am remembering it right). To be listed in charts is nice, but not very important for me or for the music that I am creating. Most people don’t have a good or even an indi(e)vidual taste. Being in the charts is worth being mentioned in a blog etc., and that’s it. As an artist you should be happy or satisfied with the result of your work, and not about being listed in anyone’s charts.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: What are your favourite Duran Duran song(s) and / or video(s)?

Neongrau: Girls On Film, Planet Earth, Anyone Out There, Sound Of Thunder, Rio, Save A Prayer, The Chauffeur, My Antarctica

LadyaslanDDTTRH: Tell us about your record label Major Rec. (MajorDigital), Drehmoment, LOFI Stereo...how did the two of you meet?

Neongrau: Major Rec. is a German label based in Hamburg and one of the best companies (besides Mute, Warp, Some Bizarre) for electronic indie artists. They are working for bands like: Ladytron, IAMX, Nitzer Ebb, Ultravox…f.e. and I am really happy to be a part of it (digital distro-wise).

One of the other two Labels totally sucks and LOFI Stereo (which released my debut vinyl) closed down in 2006.

I’ve contacted all the Labels that I am signed to, by “snail-mailing” physical demo material.

The ultimate old school way.

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: If you could remake a Duran Duran song, which one would it be?

Neongrau: “Girls On Film” or “Save A Prayer”

Ladyaslan DDTTRH: Do you think 80’s bands, such as Duran Duran, or any “New Wave” or “Synth Pop” band have a chance in the music world as it is today; too share the airwaves, as in a rebirth of retro bands?

Neongrau: No chance, because the music-biz is chronically sick these days. I mean, look at all the unmanageable DJ crap productions f.e. and the whole WWW disaster. Talented bands’ are being stolen from their own “fans” via internet file sharing, illegal download portals, direct copying…

Lots of non-talented rubbish bands overflow the already sick market releasing tons of “musical”- waste an hour.

LadyaslanDDTTRH: What do you mean by the colourful term: "hi-level trash glam for hi-level indi(e)viduals" how did you come up with that phrase?

Neongrau: It is a contradictory phrase combining the genre Indie and the word individual(ity). It is also meant to be kind of an instruction leaflet for my music and simultaneously as a warning for musical idiots and fashion amoebas to keep their ears away from my music.
